Driving Across Borders - Qatar>KSA>UAE>Oman

mp5050's picture

I am a Qatar resident of western origin and want to travel by road to Oman during the Eid Al Fitr. Some have told me that I need a visa for each country and others say that I need nothing more than a passport and proof of ownership/rental or the car.

Anyone have experience with this? Please help, Thanks

Yes I have done it and you require a visa to travel through KSA you can get this from the KSA Embassy.

Be prepared to have everything taken out of your car when going through passport checks in KSA.

You will require a visa for the UAE and one for Oman you may be able to get these as a visit visa on entry into the countries, not too sure as we had a residence UAE visa when we travelled.

You will also need to get car insurance to travel through these countries as well.

Not a lot of car rental companies will let you rent a car to take out of Doha.

UkEngQatar said Yes done it.. ...

We travelled last year over Christmas,

The procedure is as follows.

For the CAR. If it is fully paid without any loan you just need the Registration document and Insurance for Qatar.

For You and Your Family.
You will need a Sponsor Letter addressed to KSA Embassy. If you are of the 13 original EU countries you can get visa at the Border for UAE and Oman.

Once you have letter from your Sponsor , go to one the Agent who will get you a transit visa for KSA. That takes around 1 week I would say you will need photo with white background and a fee of QR75 for each visa. Dont forget your exit permit.

Thats all the document you will require. Next at the KSA border you will go the Immigration and Customs, they will check your lauggage if you are family there seem OK.
Next your will need to buy Car Insurance to travel through KSA. Make sure you buy enough Insurance with extra days at the end of your return otherwise you might get fined on the way back...Normally Q100 for 2 weeks

After that an hours drive through KSA to exit point of KSA and into UAE. UAE border you will have to get of the car fill in a form and have your Iris scan taken and you will get your visa. Then you will need to buy Car Insurance for UAE aroind QR100 for two weeks..

I never been as far as Oman, but I guess it the same as UAE u get your visa on arrival.

Hi
it seems that the only thing that is mandatory is the SAUDI Transit visa.
you have to approach an agent for that.

If u have travelled to UAE / OMAN before (by air) and have got visa on arrival then there shouldnt be a problem.

when we were planned to get to UAE by road, we went to teh UAE embassy, they told us that we can get Visa on arrival (based on our job titles) and travel straight to the border, not mentioning anything about teh transit visa required to travel thru saudi, which we found out thru seasoned travellers 2days before travelling.
we were confused and cancelled the trip.... as leave was a prob.

So to sum up, if u find out that u can drive straight thru saudi without the transit visa and get teh same at teh border, please let us know.

i guess i gave u more questions than answers..... :)

mp5050 said THANKS! ...

I appretiate the help.

I am not family and have no UAE visa and a corperate rented car so I doubt this will be easy. If the flights stay cheap I may try to just fly but had hoped to experience the road and avoid some of the airport/car hire madness that usually surrounds the holiday. I have info on the oman border from other climbers but it sounds like between the visas and insurance im looking at something like 500 riyal + petrol which is close enough to the airfare... gotta do some thinking. Thanks again!
