Dr. Rajendra Babu of Apollo Clinic Qatar

kutch's picture

Please take time to read this.....
Dr. Rajendra Babu of Apollo Clinic Qatar

I was on a visit to Qatar some days ago for my business purpose and I
happen to go to Apollo Clinic for my treatment. And there I was a
witness to a very sad incidence at Apollo Clinic, Doha, Qatar.

There was a patient who walked into the clinic late evening in very
disturbed mood. His son, 3 years, was having severe fever almost 41 deg C.
When he walked in there was along queue of patients for pediatrician (I
would not want to name these lady doctor) consultation. He was told
that there would be almost 2 hrs wait. He requested the doctor to at
least give some medicine immediately so that the fever would drop and
then he will wait for his turn to come. It was almost 1 hr 30 mins he
waited but the fever wasn't dropping. When he came to the consultation
room of the doctor, he saw that doctor was taking the patients who came
later then this gentleman who was waiting there for almost 1 hr 30 mins
with his son having severe fever.

Obviously like any other father, he really got pissed off with this. He
tried to complain to the doctor just to get the reply - "Contact
customer care if you want to complain". He came out from the
consultation room of doctor and went to reception. He asked for the
Medical administrator/director's phone number at the reception so as to
inform him about this. On this the receptionist guy, started shouting
horribly at the patient. On this, there came two more doctors, one
dentist and other the internal medicine doctor - Dr. Rajedendra Babu.
The scene was like there was a gang of these guys - Receptionist, Dr.
Babu and the Dentist against this poor father. The whole gang led by
Dr. Rajendra Babu started abusing this guy. The agitated father
politely was trying to explain them what was going on, but Dr. Babu was
in no mood to listen anything and started giving threats of POLICE. Dr.
Rajendra Babu abused the patient and started giving threats that he
would call police if the patient doesn't stop talking. The dentist was
just on the verge of getting physical with the patient along with Dr.
Babu. For the fist time in my life I had seen a doctor talking and
threatening like a road side rowdy. It seemed that Dr. Rajendra Babu is
not a medical practitioner but just a barber or a road side GUNDA. Dr.
Rajendra Babu had the guts to shout continuously at the patient saying "GET OUT OF THE CLINIC".

Just imagine the condition of the patient. Already disturbed by his
little child's health, he had to face these gang or doctors (or rather
shall I say gang of rowdy!!). The poor father had no option but to
discontinue talking more with them and keep silent so that he can get
his turn to get his child treated properly.

There is a big name of "Apollo". It's a very famous chain of hospitals
and clinics across the world. But when you get such doctors on your
panel that treats patients like this, the best of the slogan or tag
lines of the hospitals/clinics can really confuse you and make you
wonder whether it would be appropriate to get the treatment from a ROWDY ?

Its all up to you, how you take this incident. Whether does it change
your paradigm towards the doctors of Apollo or not, is totally upon
you. But it really raises a question that, is a doctor really there to
treat the patient or abuse him when he is totally disturbed because of
his or his loved one's health ? When a patient goes to a doctor to get
the treatment, he sees doctor as the only GOD. But this kind of
incidence and behavior from the doctor totally changes your point of view and your paradigm.

Kindly forward these to as many people as you know so that even they
don't suffer like this poor father.

With Kindest regards.......

Children with medical emergencies should always be taken to the Pediatric Emergency Care at Al Sadd.
They are well equipped, deal with children exclusively and are not profit-oriented.

I know nothing about the Apollo Clinic and don't think it's appropriate to forward this as I haven't heard their part of the story. If there is a legitimate complaint it should be taken up with the appropriate medical authorities in the country.

It seems like Red_pope is in favour of Apollo!!!!!! It is true that they only take money and nothing. We talk about the Hamad hospital that all Arabic speaking doctors are there and they dont know how to talk with us.

But the fact is that if we visit to indian hospitals like Apollo they insult indian like anything.

It is the same situation in the Indian Embassy as well, they dont talk properly or guide you properly there.

Doctors in Apollo think that they earning more money but they forget their proffesion.

This came to me from a Sri Lankan friend inAustralia.

I was under the impression that the opening of this hospital was a
good thing for Sri Lanka , but it looks like the same thing that's
happening all over the world. People are so greedy they don't care how they make money.

Guys, these people think they can do anything in Sri Lanka . Also,
they think Sri Lankans are dumb. How could they act like this, after being totally at fault. They are demons in the guise of god "Apollo"

This is the story of a hospital management, which does not care a hoot for medical ethics or patient care.
To Apollo Hospital, Colombo, what matters is ``wallet biopsy,'' since fleecing the public is their unwritten motto. The management even has the brazenness to charge from patients for tests, which have never been done.

The latest victim of Apollo's unscrupulousness is my husband Channa de Costa, an executive of a leading multinational company. He was admitted to this so-called hospital on July 6, 2006 with a history of acute cough and cold, chest tightness followed by breathing difficulty. After we consulted Dr. Praveen Gupta - Pulmonologist - the patient was given bed No.6006.

He was discharged on July 8, after two days of treatment. Before his discharge, on July 7, blood samples were taken from him for
various tests. But none of these were given even on the day he was
discharged. At the time of his discharge the ward nurse mentioned that the test results would be available for collection only on July 9 and the filarial antibody tests would be available in a week's time.

However on July 10, as Channa was again experiencing chest tightness,I phoned the Apollo Hospital and made an appointment to see Dr. Gupta. I showed him the medicine, which the hospital nurse had given the patient on the doctor's prescription. I did it merely to cross check whether the hospital had given my husband the correct drugs since we were not sure whether the nurse had made a mistake. Dr. Gupta's not-so-polite response was that he was only a consultant and it was not a part of his job to check the medicines (even though he had prescribed them). He told us
to go to a pharmacy to check the medicines. His consultancy fee per visit is Rs.1000!

Since my husband was continuously complaining about his chest
tightness,we then consulted a cardiologist, Dr. Tripti Dep who wanted me to collect his blood reports, which were supposed to be ready for collection on July 9. The doctor said that she could not proceed without the reports.

However at the collection counter we were told that they had received no such reports from the laboratory and wanted me to return the next day (July 11) with my husband. This information totally contradicted what the ward nurse told us at the time the patient was discharged from hospital. After I mentioned this fact,
the staff at the collection counter crosschecked with the hospital
laboratory and found that it had received no such blood samples from the relevant ward on July 7th. Thereafter the Executive Operation (bearing employment No.1820) Ms. Vedavathi wanted my husband to give fresh blood samples and assured us that she would do the tests within 30 minutes, whereas earlier we were told that such tests needed more than three days.

When we complained to the hospital's Assistant Vice President Dr. Rana Mehta, Nursing Director Ms. Costa and the Matron, their response was that Dr. Praveen Gupta had never prescribed the taking of blood samples (even though it has been originally prescribed by him), which Dr.Tripti wanted to be taken. The three of them claimed that the whole matter was a technical error on the part of the nurse on duty at the time. However when we asked them to give this answer in writing they refused to do so.

To add insult to injury Mrs Costa (Director Nursing) has already
billed us for the missing blood samples too, despite our pleas to which she responded with foul language. When we were leaving they shouted, ``you go to town and shout at us but it will have no effect on our hospital!''

This whole episode is clear proof that this `hospital' has a nursing staff, which has not received even basic training.
We have already made a complaint to the Narahenpita Police on this
matter.

In Greek mythology Apollo is a god. But in this supposed hospital it means demons!

Please forward to all your friends so they can be aware.

They asked for my son health card but he dont have one ... they never make a fuss and still treating him without any further question.

First of all, only one side of the story. Second of all, most of us get these type of fwd emails every day and delete them. I am sorry for this man's direct experience but am not so convinced by "urban myth" type emails. They can be dangerous. Agree strongly that emergencies should go to the hospital, having nursed in the UK for many years, I can assure you that facilities here are of a very high standard. At least you go home with less infections than you went in with.

Dr Rajendra Babu was not confident, after 3 hours waiting there suffering severe pain he gave a referrence letter to hamad hospital emergency. His behaviour was not polite also.At least moral support they should give to the suffering patients.

The doctor being talked about has a lot of complaints. However no action is being taken against him. I dont now why!!! My self, my few relatives and a few colleagues all had a bad experience with this guy (Dont know whether he is a doctor). He checks as if he is investigating. Shouting at patients is his commom practice. I think if Appollo wants to maintain their good image they need to get rid of such doctors. Yeah the dentist I know also acts rude and has an attitude of I am the best!

How ever let me highlight, there are good doctors also available there.

If he is a qualified & capable doctor he can find a job in India easily. Indian health care sector is very strong he will get almost same package there. I will suggest you one thing, as an experienced person from pharmaceutical field. Relay I am afraid to approach a doctor in Qatar. If he prescribes me some thing I will shortlist it and then only I will approach a medical store.
Please please, max avoid the doctors here not only Indian all nationalities are same.

blackcat said most of the commercial ...

most of the commercial clinics are bad.. they care much more about their personal income rather than about patient’s health. Other day I came to Al Emadi Hospital to see a gyno. The girls in the Insurance section tried to find out what was my problem in order to be able to decide either I have to pay for a visit or it’s covered by insurance!! I asked them: should I share my issues with you or can I see a Doctor? They kept insisting on telling them the REASON for my visit! What a crap! Finally I said, ok I have few problems to discuss with the doctor. So they gave me the number, and I had to wait for 20-30 minutes in line. Then Doctor asked me what was my problem.. and while I was talking, at the same time she was checking in her papers if it’s covered by Insurance or not!!! She didn’t really listen to me, she was filling out the forms for Insurance. Then she said: well, this issue is covered, but for another one you have to pay! She gave me 10 different papers and sent me to the reception again!!! Then receptionist sent me to the Insurance girls, and one of them started READING loudly the papers from the Doctor, which described my issues!! I was shocked! There were a lot of people around, including men.. I said: DO YOU HAVE TO ANNOUNCE ABOUT ALL MY GYNO PROBLEMS ON PUBLIC???? All what this stupid clerk could say was : But, ma’am, you have to pay for it, ma’am you have to pay for it…
I say ” what the f***!! Did I ever say that I am not going to pay???but why the h*** do you read loudly a confedential information at the crowdy place???” .. What is that idiotic system, when they are obsessed with their stinky payments, and give a sh** about the patient, and no any idea about confidentiality! I really was shocked. I said: thank you very much, don’t even think that I am going back to the Doctor’s office after this kind of reception!!! Let alone that I had to wait another 20-30 minutes to get in Doctor’s office again. I left the clinic.

Please beware before u visit such rogue doctors.

If in case you would like to meet a GP in appolo make sure u are at the services of DR. Gupta. He knows how to take care of his patients.

Appolo group has carved a good name in India with the facilities they offer. One such rogue doctor is enough to spoil the reputation. It is high time the officials act before they loose patients
I agree they are quite expensive. I have decided not to visit them again.
