I hate Filipinos in KSA

jspec's picture

fisrt of all, I respect all kind of people and thier culture's, but this drive me crazy because of low ethics!
I met/worked with so many people in Qatar (I'm Qatari)including some filipinos in Qatar and I can say 99% of them were kind and friendly =)
so far so good, but when I go to saudi arabia to vist my friends in there, I rarely get into contact with forigeners in saudi arabia, any way, what I found is when ever I ask someone for direction or locations they do help me, but when I ask a filipino they just like to ignore me like I'm nothing???? and this happend to me every time I ask a filipino (like yesterday, I was sick and went to the hospital and didn't know where is the examination room, so I asked a mid 30's filipino who was waitting too, but he just ignored me!! and this made me write this in here)
if he didn't know he could at least tell, but not to ignore me?
finally this dose not express that all of them are bad, but I was woundering why are filipinos in saudi arabia have bad ethics?? while the ones in Qatar are helpful and easy to get with???

By the way, I just recalled this case...when almost 3 years ago I came to Qatar first time for a visit, I was walking on the Corniche, and wanted to ask somebody how far the souk is, and whether it’s worth to walk if it’s not too far or better to take a taxi.. almost nobody was around (it was Tuesday midday), and finally I saw one man (now I think he was Pakistani, based on his clothes), and I was going to ask him this question, he almost jumped from me, and rushed to pass by… next guy reacted almost the same… then finally I saw a blond girl jogging along, and I asked her this question and also I shared with her my experience with the previous two men.. she smiled and said: actually it’s a cultural matter: woman cannot approach a man-stranger in the public place that easy… So I have learnt my first lesson in Gulf..

First maybe they are not Filipinos because most of the asian countries have the same features.

Secondly, I have been in Riyadh City, KSA for three straight years with my family. It is really hard to talk to strangers in that place specially to opposite sex as it is prohibited to talk to somebody if you are not husband or wife nor relative.

if worst come to worst they'll put you on jail because you are just asking of something (opposite sex).

1. Nepali Men look a lot like Filipino/Malay/Thai/Indonesian men but surprisingly the women doesn't look that much similar to the women of the said countries.

2. Although most Nepalis understand English and a lot of them speak you must have run into a guy who doesn't. Since they don't speak Arabic & his inability to communicate in English his only option was to turn away.

I too experience this problem here in Doha ...sometimes in shops when I speak in English thinking the guy to be Filipino (noting the Hair, Eyes, cheekbones, skin-colour)I get a blank look...then I speak in Hindi ...and then I get response....lol

King Edshel said jspec ... ...

I'm always with my Filipino friends and they are really very nice, what is happening here is ...
It is not that you are been ignored or something, it happened to me here as well.

A Filipino guy was waiting for a taxi and while it was around 12:00 and very hot near Villagio ... I stopped the car asking him if he needs a ride, but he was not looking at me while I was very close to him then he started asking what? what?

Then I used Tagalog to speak to him, then he answered me and said that he is waiting for his friend to pick him up.

Some of them are new here in the country and based on the others opinions who spent here 2 or 3 years ... It is always a good thing not communicate with others as their intentions are not clear. Some bad experiences that some had here and pass it to the new comers and you can't blame them for that because it is really happening.

I know that some would say, they can simply say no I don't know or whatever, but ... to some that is all what they need ... a reply from you to open a conversation that only god knows where would it end ... That is why some would prefer to do that and just say nothing at all to be in the safe side ...

Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment. (Gautama Buddha)

You know, there might not be one single reason why they ignored you--each person could have had a different reason to do it!

Like the others said, they might not have been Filipino. (But even so--not ALL Filipinos are hospitable/friendly! Just like every country in the world has different kinds of people!)
Or they might not have spoken English or Arabic well.
Maybe they were even afraid, or advised to act that way by their friends/co-workers, because of some bad experiences between expatriates (especially Asians) and the locals. Saudi is a very different place from Qatar.

Just keep your cool and always try to be nice. If they ignore, then that is their issue, not yours. You always have the choice to ask somebody else for help/directions. :)
