Looming Disaster!

BensoneRafiq's picture

I am wondering if there is a formal body was set up to receive complaints or act to protect tenants' right especially in getting compensation for disturbances due to construction noises, electrical failure, hassle from construction workers whilst working within the house yard, etc.

I've seen quite a number of new apartments completed and occupied within a few days from the completion date. The question is whether the buildings were fit to occupy and whether they were certified as fit to be used.

NO.... they drilled the foundations for the building next to my flat for 5 weeks... 5am to midnight...

It caused structural damage to the building i live in and almost drove me completely bananas...

Honestly I just cried from tiredness... awful

We have had our cars scratched and concrete blobs on them and a cracked windscreen

Unless the landlord is in breach of contract, then there is nothing you can do.

Your contract just agrees to provide you with an apartment. If a third party makes life miserable for you, there's nothing you can really do. In fact some of the rental contracts forbid you from moving out, because if you do they will charge you for the entire rental period.

Tenants basically have no rights here from Qatari landlords. There is supposed to be a rental body set up to hear tenancy complaints, but no one has bothered to actually set it up so it's months late.

A completion certificate must be obtained from the municipality prior to the contractor handing over a new building to the owner.... this is of course accompanied by a bunch of other processes such as civil defense approval, kaharam inspection etc....

As for construction works around a building that disturb the peace...well, they is a law that states when a contractor can commence noisy works and cease them. I think its 6am start, no ealier... until around 6pm... but not certain for sure.

As for power cuts, you could complain to Kharama
