Ramzi takes first gold for Bahrain

Bahrain’s Rashid Ramzi prays after getting the gold medal in the Men’s 1,500m final at the Bird’s Nest National Stadium in Beijing yesterday. His time was 3:32.94
BEIJING: Bahrain’s Rashid Ramzi won the men’s 1,500m, Christine Ohuruogu struck gold for Britain in the 400m and American Dawn Harper won a dramatic 100m hurdles on a superlative night’s action at the Bird’s Nest yesterday.
There were also golds for Russia’s Andrey Silnov in the high jump and Estonia’s Gerd Kanter in the discus, while Jamaica’s Usain Bolt cruised into the 200 metres final in ominously good shape and is in line for a double after his 100m win.

I think you will. It may be ...I think you will. It may be a few more Olympics until it happens, but Qatar's commitment to sport should ensure the Qatari youth take interest and start becoming world class athletes.

Ramzi trains in Marocco ...Ramzi trains in Marocco (where he is from) more than 8 months in a year due to lacking facilities in Bahrain. He prefers to prepare himself in altitude. So Bahrain and Qatar would have to buy some mountains, too.

i cant blame Diamond... ...Although Bahrain should be proud that their flag has been placed in the Olympic gold medal standing, it is still a "made-up" glory.
Now, Ruqaya Al Ghasra (200 meter sprint) is a totally different story.
Whether she win a medal or not, she is making a mark in GCC sports and could become the first Arab female sprinter to reach an Olympic final.
They should train more arab female athletes.

rolekz - it's obviously ...rolekz - it's obviously better for home-grown talent to win the medals rather than 'acquired' talent, but I believe what Qatar and Bahrain are trying to do is accelerate the home-grown process by using these acquisitions to win medals and inspire the countries' youth. And until the IOC change the rules to stop it happening then there's no reason why Qatar and Bahrain can't continue.
Oh, and Qatar is training female athletes, but they are yet to reach the IOC qualifying standard for the Olympics. I expect London 2012 will be a different story.

it's good over-all ...it's great overall. and i dont mean to undermine the personal achievement of Mr. Ramzi. He is an athlete and a great one at that!
It will be good for the local sports for sure, and not just for Bahrain but the whole of GCC.
