High Taxes on Qatar Airways

grendain's picture

Qatar Airways taxes are out of control! They have increased significantly in the past few years, well beyond regional competitors.

They need to hear our feedback! I urge you to take a couple minutes and use the letter below as a template to send to Qatar Airways. Feel free to customize as you like. It's all about power in numbers. If one person sends a letter they will ignore it. If hundreds of Qatar Living members send a letter they WILL take notice.

Send your letter to tell-us/-a-t-/qatarairways.com.qa.

Dear Customer Service Manager,

As a frequent Qatar Airways flyer, I am writing to express my frustration with the excessive taxes on Qatar Airways’ tickets.

Taxes on Qatar Airways’ economy class tickets range from 430 to 1,260 Qatari Riyal, which is significantly more than regional competitors charge for the same routes. Upon a quick search of award seats on Emirates Skyward’s program I found taxes 66 to 84% lower than the equivalent tickets on Qatar Airways. For example, to fly from Doha to Dubai, Qatar Airways charges 430 Riyal in taxes while Emirates charges only 70 Riyal. Another search from Doha to London reveals that a ticket on Qatar Airways costs 660 Riyal more in taxes than on Emirates.

This is a particularly important issue for Privilege Club members like myself who use q-miles to book award tickets. When forced to pay such high taxes on award tickets I don’t feel “privileged” at all. While the fare might be free, we are forced to pay upwards of 1,260 Riyal in taxes.

The convenience of flying direct out of Doha on Qatar Airways versus connecting through regional cities on other Gulf carriers is no longer worth the extra money paid in taxes.

Until taxes are lowered significantly to match or beat other regional carriers, I will now consider other airlines before booking on Qatar Airways.

Please forward my letter to senior management, so this issue can be addressed promptly. I would appreciate a response.

Regards,

(add privilege club number)

Arien said AIR FARE n TAX ...

Its True.. The reason being , the Tax factor which is called YQ TAX, is the culprit. This was introduced by airlines , globally when the oil prizes started to soar. And was hiked many times.

The Qatar and Emirates difference is not logical, because the YQ TAX is added in the Emirates Fare segment not in the TAX, wheras Qatar Air fares are excluding YQ which is added to the TAX factor.

Important note ; YQ is the highest portion of the Tax splits.

amnesia said It's an airport tax issue ...

It's an airport tax issue not the airline as far as I know.

If I go on ANY airline to Bahrain airport, the tax is the same, if I go on ANY airline from Qatar to Emirates the tax is the same.

However, the general tax has indeed gone up quite alot.
