Knowing that muslims do not drink alcohol and ramadan is a very holy month of worship.. Is it only me that found this topic distasteful?
I have no problem with you guys having fun. However if you could try to be more considerate in the future I am sure many muslims on the site would greatly appreciate your efforts.

only recently hotel opened up for day time meals during Ramadhan.
maybe you should arrive in Qatar first before commenting anything that you are not familiar with.

I would be fasting too (in a way)...coz ...I'm the only NON-MUSLIM in the company so from 7AM till 3pm...I have to.
At least it would be easier for me to stick to my diet...
No offense, PH...this would be my 3rd ramadan and i look forward to the cooler evenings (I hope) with some FRIENDS over shiesha and tea...

I am not offended at all if non muslims would like to do these things. Even muslims were allowed to drink until the prophet Mohammad SAW preferred milk over alcohol.
I very much believe that if you are not a muslim one should not be forced in anyway to observe our religious customs.
Although I am sure the muslim people you work with are very grateful for your consideration.

b) thou shalt not drink in the office
c) thou shalt be immediately deporte if thou do
or words to those effect
so we have to lock ourselves in the toilet with a sandwich and some water.....
Last Ramadan the first day... i went and dropped juice down my white top.... obvious big panic ..... my friend went around till she found a spare scarf..for me to wear!

Red Popey, you know i'm from the South of the Philippines ...And my homecity (Zamboanga City) is a mixture of Filipino Muslims and Christians whereas 10-15% of the population are Muslims.
As I have Muslim blood from my father's side, I did had the experience of living with my paternal grandfather's muslim relatives for almost a year. We also practice Ramadan back home so when i arrived to Qatar 3 years ago, it wasn't hard to adjust...
NOW THAT I WORK for a _____-owned company, like I said, it's not that difficult...but not easy as well...

come to Toronto for ...come to Toronto for Ramadan.. everything is still available.. Guinness is $6.50 (about QR 23-25), in the BAR! in store is much less obviously... Hennicain in the bars is like $4.30 (QR 16)...in the store $13 (QR 46) for the pack of 6... Live music in the bars is the kind that qatar has never heard...
dish of salmon (huuuuuge plate) for QR 40... the most expensive buffet with the excellent sea-food for about QR 60-65..(you can find cheaper if you want, for something like QR 35).. InterCon has to come over here to learn how to cook sea food and the dessert for the buffet...last time we went to Intercon, there was nothing to eat there...:)

It isn't really "fasting" and a sacrifice if nothing is available! A truly religious fast is one where a believer sits at a feast, and says "no thank you". That is sacrifice- this is just making it unavailable! and the driving like bats out of hell, how is that a religious experience?? although I do find myself praying when on the roads!!

Well...reading all this, I ...Well...reading all this, I keep thinking about Christmas....how is it celebrated? By quiet reflection and the reading of the bible? Hmmm, no...by giving copious amounts of presents and feasts. Now, don't get me wrong...i love Christmas...i love the tree, the food, the presents...i have no problem celebrating it...even wishing Jesus pbuh,a happy birthday! But...let us be realistic...the REAL reason behind it is pretty much ignored......at least by many.
So, should anyone really critisize how ramadan is now practised? By some...not all. As we do not want to generalize, do we....

I just think in the name of cultural awareness, let each to their own!!
do qatari muslims lack such self-control that even SEEING someone else chew gum or drink water will throw them off their spiritual path?? not very complimentary to them, thinking they can't make their own choices in the face of temptation
