Strange.....
We have had threads about all kinds of nationalities...bashing...bashing about bashing...etc.
What I would like to know is this....Why is it, when somebody posts something sensible in those particular threads, it is ignored? I have addressed a person several times, sensibly...to no avail. What can I conclude?
People prefer to post nasty things? They prefer to bash each other?
I do not want to believe this...but I have seen this all through my time with QL...sadly.
Oh, and I realize that this thread will neither be long nor popular...it is too sensible , I must assume....

I have noticed that in many cases they don't read the responses and discuss, but rather repeatedly argue the same point.
If your posting does not conform to their way of thinking, then they will ignore it.

They say the things they wouldn't say if they were sober. When ever I posted a rational, well researched opinion in a "speculative" post it generally dies. That's what I've experienced so far.

For the last 2 years, i've written dozen of threads about how those issues are addressed in our media.qatari actor ghanem alsulaiti made a sitcom criticizing those issues . Not once did i get a replay. people tend to believe what they want to believe.

i Quite agree with britexpat ...they come in to the forum with a preconception of what is being discussed before hand.. they dont bother reading what other ppl write but work on writing what they think in every possible way to make it the Right thing... this week too many forums about such stuff..
Really Alexa dont bother urself about it bcz give them a few minutes and they will be here arguing about the definition of sensibility

Bashing drives the people with common sense away... ...Personally, I think that the bashing threads attract the same people (or types of people) over and over again. If you cut it down to the number of people who actually comment in those threads you would see the quantity of people who think negatively is not that great. Especially compared to the number of people who log on to QL daily. Just because a thread has 200 negative comments does not mean 200 separate people made those comments. It is more likely 5 or 10 or keep posting their hate.
I for one choose not to participate because I don't believe the people who are bashing care to be enlightened or hear another opinion. They are not open to another perspective so not worth the effort.
Doctora - I am an expat woman and since coming to Qatar a year ago I have found enjoyable moments with people of all races and religions and I have also found myself annoyed with other people of all races and religions. It is not because I am an expat woman that I feel this way, it is simply because I am human. I hope that as most of us do not judge all Qataris based on the actions of a few that you will not judge all expatriates on the ignorant comments and behavior of a hand full of individuals who hide behind their anonymity when spewing their venom.

i second what britexpat said above too - it's the same with the news providers that many people choose. they are looking for something to confirm their beliefs, and not necessarily looking to learn more about a story or issue.

I have been an expat for about 15 years now. I have lived all over the world. I have experienced and participated many different cultures. Even in KSA...of all places....lol
There are many like me...even here in Qatar. You seem to only speak to the mentally challenged ones...try to also TALK to the other ones....
For example..there is QLSG....we ALL get together, all nationalities, faiths etc. We get along exceptionally well, it is ALWAYS a pleasure to meet.
Now, it would be very nice to have some more Qataris and Qatarias in our group,as this would greatly contribute to our diversity and as it is often difficult to meet Qataris for expatriates, would still our curiosity ....simply, i think it would we enjoyable and enlightening for all!
So, how about we continue to TALK face to face?

I can't reply to all posts, and sometimes I do not deem them right...this MAY have been the case with the person you mentioned.The thread you are talking about turned very nasty...for one reason or another, and as I mentioned, it was not my cup of tea anymore. Anyhow, I DID post sensibly a few times, to no avail....therefore i did not continue.
