Schools are the least ...Schools are the least worried. They keep on raising their fees, levying capital charges and have very long, and in some case closed, waiting lists.

yes ...I have a close friend and she's leaving w/ all the rest of the family to Abu dhabi still there are many who come here but those who stay for long i guess are very few.
Even in our company the turn over of staff is high and it is really difficult because of lack of continuity of work. You are working w/ a thought in mind that the person who you are dealing with would be gone sooner or later.
The soaring inflation rate is not the only problem here...the system is just crazy!
Im not looking forward to stay here for long as well!

Big picture.. ...Let me try to caputre the big picture on this issue, as following:
- The inflation is growing and growing without any goverment or market control.
- The rent is rising and rising..any option in the market (in terms of prices)
- Poor medical system
- Lacking groceries and specualtion
- High personnel staff rotation and non-working continuity
Is it just an arabic point of view? or is a general perspective.
According to all the commnets in QL - Qatar looks as a nightmare - Any good issue?...
novita77 said
good issue ...For me at least :
Cheap petrol (compare to the UK and Indonesia)
Husband short working hours
Son goes to good school
COOLDOHAMAN said
I choose Qatar to settledown because.......... ...I can reach home within an hour journey if I work anywhere in Qatar.
And moderate schooling facilities for kid, Cheap petrol and un-interrupted power supply.
novita77 said
Another thing here ... we ...Another thing here ... we dont have mosquito ... back home in Indonesia you always have that problem :-)

I choose Qatar because it's ...I choose Qatar because it's the best option for alot of reasons(and the wacked driving isn't one of them! lol), once I'm done with med school I'm outta here.

Plenty of Moquitos ...yv2r
Novita, try to go in to Industrial Area, you will find plenty of Mosquitos there, recently I went to Toyota wearhouse,in that area I have seen plenty of Mosquits
COOLDOHAMAN said
yes you are right novita77 ...REALLY MOST IMPORTANT ADVANTAGE IN QATAR IS WE ALL ARE SAFE FROM HORRIBLE " MOSQUITOS"!!!!!!!!!!!.
Cornellian said
Yeah u got alot of mosquitos ...Yeah u got alot of mosquitos in Indonesia cause there's alot of green and beautiful jungles :P I would rather deal with green jungles with mosquitos than deal with a baren desert where there are alot of lizards hehe
COOLDOHAMAN said
YES THERE IS....Because ........ ...People whoever living there are not clearing the wastes generated by themselves. If you come to residential areas in Doha you cannot find this problem.
novita77 said
Hmmm ... ppl said you never ...Hmmm ... ppl said you never appreciate what you got. I do love Indonesia (especially now 6 yrs living in the desert, now you realize how beautiful your country is).
I just take the 'no mosquito' is one of the good advantage for living in Doha.
Doha is not perfect place to live, i have lived in the worse places ... This place is hot ... driving is sucks ... living cost keep going up. But then if i always looks the bad side ... i already packed my suitcases years ago.

COOLDOHAMAN said
novita77 .....I mensioned ppl is not Indonesian..... but ...the people living at industrial area (some areas). Have you ever been at Industrial area?
novita77 said
cooldohaman ... i know what ...cooldohaman ... i know what you mean ... but i was referring the positive bit about myself . Where i live here in Doha i did not find any mosquito.
COOLDOHAMAN said
Back to the main topic ...We stared the topic from soaring coast and frustrated people and reached up to mosquitos. Lets go for the conclustion of the topic.
1. Approximately 40% people planned to go back or transfer their family
2. Another 30% planning to quit Qatar.
3.What will happen to the rest 30%
My conclusion is rest 30% people are still waiting here and they have "HOPES THAT ONE DAY THE RENTS AND SOARED PRISES FOR COMMODITIES WILL COME DOWN AND THEY WILL LIVE HERE HAPPILY!!!!!!
ainarl said
i'd stay here for a while ...I'd stay here for-a-while. its easy to go to work and vice versa (just 15 mins im at work and 15mins im back home.) back in my beloved country it will take me 3 hours to reach my work and 3 hours to go back home. waste of quality time.

Push VS Pull Factors ...Whether people stay or people leave, it depends on Push VS Pull factors.
Push Factors :
1. High, uncontrolled inflation rate
2. Poor availability of good housing
3. QAR / USD currency peg
4. Limited availability of International schools
Pull Factors :
1. Less stressful life (which includes shorter working hours
and no severe traffic jams)
2. Expanding economy
3. Peaceful country & low crime rates
In the end, people will have to weigh between the two.
Noble-Man said
Are People Really Leaving ? ...From my own observation, majority of foreigners in Qatar come from India, Philippines, Egypt & Nepal.
Friends from India said they may leave as they see India's economy expanding and better future back home.
Friends from Philippines said they don't see good future in the Philippines. Unless they get better opportunities in other Gulf countries, they will stay in Qatar.
Friends from Egypt said salary in Egypt is very very low compared to Qatar and more and more Egyptians are unemployed nowadays.
Friends from Nepal said ......(hhmmmm I don't have friends from Nepal yet).

Perspective ...Is very interesting how all of you can provide me a differents perspectives about Qatar, I will move to Qatar in September all your comments are very importats to prepare my family for this chalange.
It seems that depends on your nationality your points of view about Qatar become a black and white issue: Idian, philipines, Egypt, Chinnes, etc.
Just one advise for me: Any way to get fun in Qatar?..(Parties, Disco, Pub's, Afterhours)

I choose Qatar beacause no ...I choose Qatar beacause no other country wants me including Iraq and Afganiztan (:

Doha rents will be cheaper............. ...Barwa company started their housing project work near the main road going towards Industrial Area. I saw the project area. Its a big project. House rents will be controlled by Goverment as I heard because the lands are provided by the Goverment. The first phase will be commissioned within an year. Not only this project there are so many housing projects are comming. Hope by the end of this year we will feel the difference.Rising House rents can also be controlled by controlling the local realestate mafia. They are the main reason for the situation.
sl said
COOlDOHAMAN ...How they are going to control the rent when the Landloard is not required to pay his bank loan until the Flat is rented. They can hold on to whatever the price they want up to any period until they find a tenent on their terms. FYI Barwa development meant for mid level government employees.
COOLDOHAMAN said
sl ...As per the news I got, land provided for them by goverment and they are having good hold on that land. I saw last week news in Gulf times that Barwa cannot fix the price whatever they want. One most important thing is if supply is more demand will be less.
