Latest news from Qatar
Arms race begins again
Well Russia gets surrounded with a missile defense shield and they come up with a stealth nuke...
dodgy news paper but.. you get the gist.
Russia tests stealth missile that could penetrate US shield
Russia has successfully tested a stealth missile able to penetrate the US defence system being built in Poland.
In a clear show of military strength amid rising tensions with Nato allies, Kremlin chiefs fired a Topol RS-12M rocket, which has nuclear capabilities, from their Plesetsk space centre to a target 3,700 miles across the country.
The test came a week after Washington and Warsaw formally agreed a deal to host components of a US missile defence shield in Poland. While American officials insist the shield is designed to defend against a potential attack from Iran or North Korea, Moscow has maintained that it is an unacceptable affront to its own security.
The Russian Foreign Ministry last week promised "to react, and not only through diplomatic protests" to the shield's construction.
Following the test strike, Col Alexander Vovk of the Russian Strategic Rocket Forces said: "The launch was specially tasked to test the missile's capability to avoid ground-based detection systems."
The missile hit its target "with high precision, demonstrating its capability to deliver pinpoint strikes on well-defended targets," Col Vovk added.
The Topol RS-12M, which is referred to as the SS-25 Sickle by Nato, weighs 45 tonnes, has a maximum range of 6,125 miles and can carry one 550-kiloton nuclear warhead. The development of the weapon began in 1977 and it has been part of the Russian arsenal since the Cold War.
However, earlier models have been updated and their service life extended. Col Vovk said the latest model was less detectable and its path less predictable by shields.

AbuAmerican.. ...I always take this type of report with a pinch of salt.. However, it serves the purposes of the Russians..They are telling Europe and especially Poiland etc, that we can get you whenever we want , even though you may have American protection..
Look what happened in tne Gulf war.. The USA made out that the Patriot misile was the best thing since sliced bread.. Later analysis proved that the success rate was actually much lower than claimed..

Gypsy you cannot survive a ...Gypsy you cannot survive a nulear attack by hiding underside the desk,i am certain.
As far as i know that The Topol missile is a type of a cruise missile having a GPS system in it. It is stealthy in a sense and the way it picks up the route that avoids the radars range or radius of coverage. It also does so by staying very low to the ground. So its not that new a technology. Few european, south asian countries pocess this indigenious technology of pin point strike. It was well understood by every one that even if the missile shield will be installed it can be countered at least by Russians with not that diffculty. Dont know the logic.

So your parents told you to ...So your parents told you to hide under the table when there is a nuclear attack . This is not possible i think, you must be mistaken. I think then must be a teenager in 1960s.
The nulcear weapons are equally distructive as they were in 1960s to the level that any one hiding under the table wont survive.

Gypsy.. ...I remember reading a British Government leaflet on a Chemical attack once..
One suggestion was hide under the dining table and cover yourselves with a bed sheet.
Also, hide in the Bathroom. Use wet towels and put them against the doors and windows..
One interesting aspect.. If, the UK is attacked, there sre a select few "civil servants" who will go into an underground bunker to continue running the government.

adnanmzfr said
Well it may be the common ...Well it may be the common sense that if you dont have anything to protect yourself then hide yourself some where under the cover, but definately not under "my" table (you used the word "your" table :-) ).
No body knows how effective is this but certainly people living far off from the nuclear impact can save them in this manner. Hope this never happens to any place in the world.
