Mother killed baby daughter in microwave
"A mother in the United States has been found guilty of murdering her baby daughter by cooking her in a microwave. China Arnold, 28, put one-month-old Paris Talley in the oven after a fight with her boyfriend.
A jury yesterday found her guilty of aggravated murder and she was remanded for sentencing, with the prospect that she could face the death penalty.
Arnold showed no reaction when the verdict was announced at a court in Dayton, Ohio, but wept as she was led from the dock. Relatives in the courtroom cried and covered their faces with their hands.
At the time of the murder in August 2005, Arnold, her four children and her then boyfriend, Terrell Talley, lived together in a flat on a housing complex in Dayton.
Arnold claimed someone else had killed the child. An eight-year-old boy told the court he saw another boy walk into the kitchen of a nearby apartment with the baby, heard the microwave go on, and later saw the burned baby in the oven.
But Paris's DNA was found inside a microwave in Arnold's apartment, prosecutors said. A forensic pathologist testified that the baby died after being in the microwave for more than two minutes.
Defence lawyer Jon Paul Rion said Arnold was too drunk to remember events on the night of the murder. She had a blood-alcohol level nearly four times the legal driving limit.
Arnold told a cellmate that she put the baby in the microwave because she feared her boyfriend would leave her if he found out the child was not his.
Jurors, who returned their verdict after eight hours' deliberation, will return on Tuesday to consider whether Arnold should face the death penalty."
Thia is just beyond me!!! Mothers all around the world have been known to commit infanticide whilst suffering mental stress and/or post-natal depression; I can only assume this woman's brain 'broke' at the time, any other reason is too horrific and disturbing to even comprehend. Don't get me wrong, what she did is beyond words and she should face the full force of the law but it is even more vomit inducing to consider that she may have been sane at the time!

I grew up working with child welfare agencies, orphanages, etc. I know that there's no practical way to enforce it, or really anyway to stop people from having children that doesn't go against human rights. I have seen poor ,uneducated people being offered education and not wanting it because a life in crime is much less work intense...sorry, but i think your view on things is too idealistic, too far removed from the rather ugly reality.

I have to say that I feel ...I have to say that I feel the same way sometimes about people getting pregnant. I can never understand how God allows people to have children when they treat them so badly.
however if it were the case then I would probably vote for all of southern california to stop having children because I believe raising them in this rat race is also just as inhumane as beating them!
So where do we draw the line on such things? And when does this type of thinking take us away from putting our trust in God.
Horrible things happen and I can only have hope that God has an ultimate plan and reasoning behind all of this. All of a sudden Heaven is starting to sound a great reward for those who have and will suffer in this world.

That poor child paid with it's life, for being in the wrong household and being born to the wrong mother. I think the death penalty is a cop out here, let her spend 25 years in jail remembering every day the torture and pain that she caused, that would be the punishment of my choosing.

Take the example of my very close friend who has undergone various infertility treatments but to no avail..She has still not been blessed with a child..Imagine then when she reads of such stuff what it would do to her Eeman? We can only make dua for the victims of such evil & pray God Will re compensate them with that which is better..Meanwhile those in authority should do all it takes to ensure such incidences don't get repeated..Maximum penalty should be applied in such cases! I dunno man just doesn't seem fair to give them a place to stay and food with psychological treatment all because they killed their kids or another human being.
I think the people who commit crimes like this are sorta past rehabilitation or whatever we are seeking when we imprison them. We cant set them back on the streets in 10 0r 20 years can we?
Anyhow I suggest the death penalty for lack of a better solution.
