I think that it doesn't help to rub salt in people's wounds. If you drive through a labour camp in a lamborghini what do you think peoples reaction is going to be?? Frankly, if it were me, and looking at that car and knowing the price of it could feed my family for 5 years, I'd be tempted towards violence.

I have been here more than a decade and have seen the plight of the immigrant labors worsen with each passing year.

I have been told 'hey, they are making 100 times more here than what they make at home' or 'they send every cent of it back to their country and in 10 years they live like kings' I am saddened by this as people who are benefiting from the sweat of their backs are justifying it to themselves... perhaps to sleep better at night? Who knows.

I asked my husband why you see all these guys so skinny, was it because of working outside? He told me 'what do you expect, they eat on 150 QR a month'. This 150 is what is provided by the employer. Sad to do this to our brothers (and sisters in some cases)

My "brother from another mother" as I call him, who started out as the guy who picked us up at the airport and ended up becoming part of the family, was here from the time he was 18 till the time he was 31 and ran out of the money he saved in 6 months back in Kerala, and he was making pretty good money. And having been to that area, unless they are overcharging me, they aren't getting enough to live on here.

There is a linkage, but you are all assuming that these crimes are being committed by labourers..

One problem is also people without jobs coming to Qatar. they arrive here with some money, and then if they can't find a job, and don't have a means of supporting themselves, they turn to petty crime...

Another is obviously low pay. Many are promised by the agents that they can carry out part time jobs to supplement their income.. when they can't do this, they turn to crime.

Finally, it is possible that because of the inflation and cost of living, some locals are responsible for minor portion of the crimes..

The petty crimes here have increased, 10 years ago you never heard of a robbery here, but of course at that time a chicken cost about 4QR.

Alot of the pay rates are nationailty based here as they are basing the wage on what they would make in their home country. It doesnt make a lot of sense because the cost of liviing here is not even comparable to their mother countries.

A minimum wage based on cost of living should be implemented here, for what is referred to as 'skilled' and 'non-skilled' labor

I think that crimes such as these reflect how we treat other people. It is a reflection of our self. We may not be directly involved with exploitation of their rights but our silence about it makes us guilty as the next man.

& although, one has to be responsible for their own actions, we must never forget that our actions also affects other people and vice versa. We cannot control other people's desire and the decisions they will make, but we can control ours. Thus, let us not try to do things which will entice them to do evil nor give them opportunities to hurt us. Even if this does not guarantee a 100 per cent safety, this is a one good way to help reduce crime in our own little way and at the same time taking responsibility for oneself. As it is, no one will take advantage of anyone, if there's no one to be taken advantage of.

There is no excuse however, for them who commit crimes; yet, if we only treat out brothers fairly and always keeping in mind that they are humans and have feelings and needs like us, we may be able to decrease, if not completely eradicate, these crimes.
