Five star nightmare!!

My wife and two year old set off from her home in Calicut in the wee hours of the morning today to be in Doha by Qatar Airways 285. She was supposed to land in Qatar at 8:45am. Its been 12 hours since she set off from her home and right now she is stranded in a Qatar Airways aircraft on the tarmac in Muscat along with other copassengers who are refusing to get off the aircraft.
AFTER immigration, check-in and security in Calicut the passengers were informed that the flight had to be diverted to Trivandrum due to bad weather and had arrived later than planned at Calicut. Initially the plan was to cancel the flight. But then they decided to fly anyway but already there had been a four hours delay.
After everyone had boarded the aircraft, they were made to wait for another hour and a half before take off.
The passengers were informed that there would be a ten minutes stop over at Muscat. However, after the flight has landed at Muscat, the passengers have been informed that it would be a three hours stopover. These passengers have been 12 hours in to a journey which should not take half as much time and the passengers are refusing to get off the aircraft. My two year old son is very tired and crying nonstop.
Why weren't the passengers informed of the delay before they went through immigration and check in?
Why weren't the passengers informed about a three hour stopover in Muscat?
Why isn't special attention being given to people like my wife and son who are having to bear the brunt of Qatar Airway's mistakes?

Hashin, I understand your fustration! ......but wouldn't you rather they didn't fly and the dealy was longer if weather is that bad, rather than risk flying in urbulant conditions!
Even so, they should have kept your wife informed properly and oofered to help in any way they can!

the delay is not due to the weather ...The weather has been clear for the last 12 hours... I don't care if they hadn't flown over today or not... but having decided to fly today, spending so much time in the aircraft for a 4.5 hours journey. I could have booked them in to air india express for half QA price but I didn't because I wanted them to fly comfortably.

Yes, i have, not only once......one time with Lufthansa the other time with QA...rather unpleasant...but , I ALWAYS take sleepng pills when I travel...therfore it did not bother me THAT much.

QA lied to its passengers ...When the passengers boarded the aircraft from Calicut, they were told that there would be a ten minutes stop over at Muscat. QA already had planned for a three hour stopover back then because that is the update that the automated system at the airport was giving. This news was given to the passengers after they landed at Muscat. Why were the passengers lied to?

QA starves its passengers... ...These passengers have been on the aircraft now for the last 7 hours. this is not including another five hours that they were made to wait at the airport. During all this while they have only been served one meal which was supposed to be the breakfast... that is five star service for you...

QA just doesn't care ...Why would QA want to stop over a flight at Muscat in the first place? They might as well have flown all the way to Qatar... Its a 4.5 hours flight from Calicut to Doha. That being the case, why stop over at Muscat which is just one hour from the destination?

I did pay by credit card ...I paid twice as much for this flight when there were other flights cos I wanted a direct flight! Some direct flight this has been!
And they charged me 1000 QAR for a one week extension!

Yeah, complain to the CC company and request they do not pay ......QA. Including for the extension.
Write a letter to QA explaining if you want, but if you instruct your CC company not to pay, they shouldn't!
Hence, you can get your money back!

Personally I only take ...Personally I only take british airways! I like the service and I know what to expect should something happen with my flight!
I am sure the stewardess is doing everything possible to make sure your daughter and wife are eating hashin. They always have little snacks and stuff to tie them over.
Its not the best situation but soon you will have them home and take care of them properly.

Do you know what the problem ...Do you know what the problem was? Maybe they had to divert to Muscat because there was a problem with the plane?
Also as much as delays are frustrating, they may be in the best interest of the safety of the passengers.

It is always in the best ...It is always in the best interest of the passenger when the airline decided to divert or to wait for the weather to clear up before proceeding to their destination.
Even if you've booked them on Air India and the weather is bad it will be same procedure to wait up before proceeding.
It is better to be late than to be sorry.

I have had terrible service ...I have had terrible service with British Airways, Qatar Airways, KLM, Air Canada, most of the American airlines, Gulf Air and many more. The only decent one I have been on was Emirates, but it is overpriced!

I've had terrible ...I've had terrible experiences with Air France, BA, Emirates, and Gulf Air.
The absolute best was Virgin or Singapore. QA were very good but not up to scratch in economy if you ask me.

Come On ...It’s better to stay on ground then to fly in air with a Technical Problem or a bad climate. What if the plane had crashed? who would you guys blame. Just to end the trip some how the other is not the solution. So many Air crafts in the past have taken several risks in bad climate and so on and sadly have not made it. The Airlines normally refuse to give out the exact information just that the passengers don’t panic.
As long as you and your family reached home safe and sound is what matters. I know it can be frustrating, but sometimes things can go wrong. There could be several reasons.. But i would say nothing is more important than Life..
If Qatar Airways 5 star nightmare did not suit you.. you have so many Airlines as a customer you can choose. I too was on board Emirates heading to Bangkok 2 years ago, there was a delay of 3 hours on Flight.. Passengers got wild and started abusing the Airlines.. and the reason for the delay was Technical problem which the captain refused to take off until the Engineers did not make a final check.. The trip was tiring, yet we reached safe..
Its easy to deal with mistakes on ground as you don’t have a second chance up in the Sky...

it happen with any airline ...it happen with any airline QR (not QA) is not the only airline that has technical problems , fly with any airline ...at least thanx to Allah QR is doing good better than other airline which you book a ticket and u go to the airport they tell you we are not flying today try to come tomorrow! as someone has mentioned up there that she/he had flown with QA,BA and many are all problems except EK..it just didnt happen to her/him to get trouble while flying with EK , i had problem with EK they left my luggage and i got them after 5days when my vacation was just a week...hows that? but we cannot blame anyone that is the way it is, bcz no any airline is having 100% good service , today if u fly with EK u will may not get any trouble but tomorrow ur brother will fly with EK he maybe unluck and the flight got technical problem. QR stopped in MCT due to technical problem

Dont worry hashin, its not only you. My Mother is over to visit ...,and when she flew from Manchester 3 weeks ago, the plane sat waiting at the runway for 2 n half hours due to congestion (???)
When they finally landed at Qatar, to change planes, they found out that the connecting flight had just closed the gate, EVEN though they knew the late flight had just landed.
So they flew a vitrtually empty plane to Bahrain, leaving all the onward passengers to wait in Qatar airport for 8 hours till the next flight to Bahrain !!
5 star airline...5 star bullsite more like.
So, its down to you people to vote with yer feet.Skip QA and use a better airline.When their profits go down, they may wake up and smell the coffee......
