Would-be girl bomber wanted to be doctor
BAQUBA (AFP)
Fifteen-year-old Raniya Ibrahim dreamed of being a doctor. Instead she walked into a crowded market place in central Iraq’s Baquba city with 20 kilogrammes of explosives strapped to her waist.
But the plan, allegedly masterminded by her husband and other Al Qaeda operatives, possibly including her mother, went wrong when police arrested Raniya in the capital of Diyala province, long an insurgent stronghold.
Raniya claims she is innocent, tricked by her husband and two women into wearing an explosives vest that she never intended to use before being taken to the market where they planned to detonate the dynamite by remote control.
“Martyrdom is the right thing my husband said to me,” cherubic-faced Raniya said in a rare glimpse into the mind of a potential suicide bomber and Al Qaeda’s methods in the recruitment of young women to their cause.
“He told me that in paradise there are female angels with intensely white skin and deep black eyes. Paradise is like a large garden full of flowers, with two rivers — one sweet and another made of honey.”
Covered from head to toe in a jet-black abaya, the traditional Arabic dress for women, Raniya smiled with childish delight as she recalled the words of her husband, a Qaeda operative who investigators say is wanted for 40 murders, most of them beheadings. Raniya, who said she dreamed of being a doctor but married at 14 at the insistence of her apparently financially strapped mother, spoke softly about her ordeal that she said included drugging and detention, before the media spotlight.
“I was trying to go to my mother and leave the vest with her or ask her to inform the police,” she insisted.
Suicide bombers are rarely caught alive, and Raniya has become the first and youngest woman in Iraq apprehended with an explosive belt on her body, police said.
Her arrest is media gold for Iraqi security forces, who have been parading her in front of the press in hopes they will win minds in a propaganda war against an insurgency that flares up weekly in this part of the country.
Police say that Al Qaeda in Iraq is in trouble as an Iraqi-led but US-backed counter-insurgency has hit at the heart of the group, forcing them to turn to young women as male candidates have dried up.
According to Iraqi security officials, more than 30 women have blown themselves up this year compared to a only a handful last year.
“Al Qaeda has lost its ability to recruit men, and now it has started with women, the young, the retarded and beggars,” said Diyala police chief Major General Abdel Karim Khalaf. “They have lost their power.”
As she recounted the events leading to her arrest on August 24, Raniya, who quit school when she was 11, insisted in simple but clear Arabic that she was caught up in a web of lies and deceit. “My husband took me to the house of his cousin, a woman who I saw for the first time, and she asked me to put on the explosive vest. She said that it will not blow up, just wear it.” “I put the vest on and we went to the market by a minibus, but she gave me peach juice before leaving, and I soon felt dizzy and started to see double.”
“I knew there was a bomb, because I saw the wires but they told me I would not be blown up. “We arrived in the market and they left me there, saying they would do some shopping.”
When police found Raniya, she was trying to cross through the market after three police had been shot inside, Khalaf said. He said she was acting suspiciously and ordered her to stop. When she refused to comply, a policeman drew his gun on her while another handcuffed her.
A police video shows Raniya handcuffed to a large piece of iron scrap metal as a bomb squad removes and then defuses the explosive vest strapped around her waist. Her body movements appear coherent and unperturbed by drugs.
“The plan was some Al Qaeda people shot three policemen in the market and then as police gathered at the scene, Raniya would have been blown up by remote control next to the scene,” said Khalaf.
An investigator involved in Raniya’s case said there was no question that Raniya was an “extremist”.
Despite Raniya’s protests, police say that she fits perfectly the psychological profile of a want-to-be suicide bomber — her father was a suicide bomber and so was her brother.

The point is that our enviroment has a big impact on us. Ghandi did what was reasonable and wise considering his circumstances. There is no doubt that we have become a gun happy world! We move to fast without thinking.
That does not mean defending ourselves is never neccessary. For instance, ghandi was still not able to rid India of all the corruption. He just brought something obvious, desirable by all and made miniscule (spell check) progress compared to the grand scale of problems within the country.
Our eyes can judge the weight of progress but our hands can only feel its true measure.

You can defend yourselfs by not killing and being more inteligent but while you see people beliving that God/Allah will reward them for that, you'll loose all battles.
The bible is interesting but for me only Jesus didn't contradict himself, the problem with ALL holly books is that they were changed by us, humans, so that scholars could say that my religion is better than yours and i'm right and you wrong, instead of leaving religion as it was tought by God/Allah, He's perfect, He doesn't contradict himself ever and he knows and sees all, there's another saying at the bible where Jesus says, "Do up on others what you would like them to do to you"
There's another saying but out of religion that says that the one that lives by the sword will die by the sword.
I can only think in 1 thing that might help and that's Jesus words when he was crucified and said:
Forgive them Father, they don't know what they are doing
Lets hope that one day we can all live as a brotherwood of Men (not the gender but to generalize humans). ;)

Going back to the original post.. If her father was a suicide bomber, then I should think that she was conditioned to do this and knew full well what was going on. However, when oit came to the crunch, she realised that she wanted to live!

Okay fair enough Jesus was amazing in the bible. His speech was by far an inspiration to mankind. However the interpretation could be somewhat different from the english version and what is taught.
Still I try to keep an open mind regarding the teachings of the bible as I do see alot of sense in it. I am still weighing it up in my mind and contemplating islamic literature.
It is worthy to note that Islam had more converts by way of peace then war! However, I also see the wisdom in the actions of the early muslims. And I can also see how the interpretation of what jesus meant by those words would not have worked for the Islamic purpose. I.E. to establish worship of only God in the region. It is obvious from Christianity that indeed they are far astray from the teachings of christ. Even more so then the muslims are from the teachings of Prophet Mohammad. So I question whether following the so called teachings of jesus was the right thing to do?
And if for instance, jesus as the son of God is a fallacy then what a trick to pull on even the most elect who jesus himself said will be fooled by Satan in the end times.
A trick because the very first commandment is to only worship the Lord thy God! And do not worship any other gods besides me!
Peace is a universal desire by all Mankind! It is the reason mankind lives and dies with the desire to go to heaven in order to finally rest his eyes and experience perfect bliss and peace. I do not believe, because of our own corrupt natures, that it will ever be possible to establish it on the earth! And this is also clearly written in the bible!
And unfortunately I believe the idea of peace on earth is just another trick by Shaytaan because he knows our deep desire for it and arrogant nature that believes we can make it happen. Hence worshipping ourselves rather then depending on God. As, truly, he is the Only who can make good happen.
Whatever happens that is good is not from ourselves but from Allah. A million unforseen circumstances could have happened and is a miracle only HE can actually make happen.

But I totally support such brave acts if they where aimed against foriegners (military or civilians)who have invaded muslim lands & carried out aggressions against the owners of the land.

About Islam having more converts, means almost nothing, we are living desperated times and people still belive that by preying and going to temple but not really changing inside they'll get favours from God/Allah, as if he wasn't a perfect being and all His concern would be our planet and the natives of this world, with such a huge universe to rule.
Without any intention to attack Islam, you must be aware that only in Islamic countries you are forced to marry in a Mosque because if you don't it's considered fornication. This means that you can only marry a muslim.

I have read that Moses, Jesus and Mohamed were monotheists before creating Judaism and Islam.
Jesus didn't created christianism but his desciples did.
But like i said previouslly, all these religions came from Monotheism.
There were also previsions saying that the world would end in 2000 but we are all still here.

First of all notice that jesus did not say this is my only command and forget all others made by God or me previously!
He gave an added command to that which he was already following. And the fact that you have tried to twist those words to support your own beliefs is a mistake made many times by numerous religious scholars!
He also said "Follow me for I am the way, the light"
Second of all, christian women were told to only marry christian men! however, if they were already married to a non christian then they should remain married and obediant to him as was advised by one of the disciples.

YES! ...it is the duty of muslims to fight the invading armies in both countries. It is up to the non muslim minorities if they wanted to defend their countries, too. So the answer is YES!
You have to absorb your religion very well, be wise, be kind, and be clever as much as you can to avoid casualties in your brother countrymen while fighting the invading enemy, but if something happened despite all your cautions, then it is unfortunate. It is like attacking "terrorists" in order to free the hostages and you lose some of them during the process. It happens all the time!
