Three people check into a hotel. They pay $30 to the manager and go to their room. The manager suddenly remembers that the room rate is $25 and gives $5 to the bellboy to return to the people. On the way to the room the bellboy reasons that $5 would be difficult to share among three people so he pockets $2 and gives $1 to each person. Now each person paid £10 and got back £1. So they paid £9 each, totalling $27. The bellboy has $2, totalling $29. Where is the missing $1?

Mr Smith has lots of pound coins, ten boxes in all. Each box contains 100 pound coins, but one box contains coins which are counterfeit and are slightly lighter, 1/16 of an ounce lighter to be exact. The problem lies in the fact that they all look identical, the only way to tell them apart is to weigh them. Mr Smith knows the correct weight for a box, but how many weighings are required to determine which box contains the counterfeit ones?

A traveler, on his way to a certain village, reaches a road junction, where he can turn left or right. He knows that only one of the two roads leads to village, but unfortunately, he does not know which one. Fortunately, he sees two twin-brothers standing at the road junction, and he decides to ask them for directions.

The traveler knows that one of the two brothers always tells the truth and the other one always lies. Unfortunately, he does not know which one always tells the truth and which one always lies.

Question:
How can the traveler find out the way to village by asking just "one" question to "one" of the two brothers?

This web-based puzzle will test your powers of deduction, reasoning, logic, creativity, research, ability to see connections between apparently unrelated things, and your ability to think outside the box in general. In order to get the most out of this brain-teaser, you will need to have a computer. (Which you obviously do.) Unlike many similar puzzles of this type, the tools you need to solve these puzzles are part of your operating system already:

* Image viewer
* Calculator
* Notepad or another word processor
* Rudimentary "paint" program
* Media player

That's right... no need to scour the net for hacked versions of Photoshop or Java decompilers, no need to read my mind and guess my favorite band, and no need to learn the Python programming language. ;-) You'll probably learn a few things in your travels, and don't give up! Every puzzle has a logical solution - pay attention to every part of every puzzle, and remember what came before, as many puzzles build upon ideas or techniques introduced earlier.

Fishing Pole

A boy goes and buys a one-piece fishing pole that is 6' 3" long. As he goes to get on the bus, the bus driver tells him that he can't take anything on the bus longer than 6'.

The boy goes back to town, buys one more thing, and the bus driver allows him on the bus.

He did not damage the fishing pole in any way.

What did he buy, and what did he do with it?
