Where is a good used car inspection/mechanic?

Hi all - Ramadan Mubarak to those celebrating!

My husband finally got his residence permit and we want to buy a used car instead of continuing to rent. Of course, we are not mechanics and besides test driving it to make sure there are actually brakes, we have no real way of knowing what shape the car is in besides what the seller tells us.

So I hope you can all help us - where can we take the car, before we buy it, to get it checked over? Is there a mechanic you use and trust? Or is there a service center that will inspect it for you? I heard from a friend that there is a center that, for 150 QR, will do a full report for you on the condition of the car - but he didn't remember the name of the center or where it is (except "at the end of a long road...").
