HSBC online website and Safari Browser

maaverix's picture

HI
I am trying to access the online HSBC webpage to view my account using the safari browser in the Mac. BUt the page does not load successfully. Any one familiar with the HSBC online A/c logon will know that once you click on the logon button it will go to https mode and 2 new webpages will pop up and on the second page will allow you enter you logon parameters. In my case I am not able to get those pages. Initially I thought it was a pop up issue. But then I disabled it using the Safari Preferences.
Is there any one else I am not looking?

Tks in advance for any help in this regard.

I tried the Qatar website and they have similar problems with firefox as well. Then I tried Explorer and it worked fine. I am still looking for a solution for Safari browser.
This is the website: http://www.hsbc.com....

nigelreid said not supported ...

the Qatar HSBC online banking does not work on Mac at all, neither on Safari or Firefox. I emailed their support about this and they wrote back to say that it works on Netscape (LOL) - like anyone still uses that. (Anyway I downloaded the last available prehistoric version of Netscape and it doesn't work on that either.) Internet Explorer on Mac is no longer available at all, so don't know how you managed to try it.

It's just the usual story of being told by IT support basically to use a PC. While I'm not going to do that, I'm just accessing it from a work PC. So that's why it doesn't work on your mac. And if you don't like that fact, guess what, damn all you can about it, so suck it up!

You could always run IE on Windows in Parallels.

I use vmware on linux and I do have an XP vm that I sometimes use.

That would be a long term solution. I am looking for something on the short term.

Lazymoose said Firefox works for me ...

One HSBC website lists Firefox 2.0 and Nescape 7.2 for online banking with Mac. Anyway, I am accessing HSBC-Qatar using Firefox 3.0.3 with MacOS 10.5 but Safari 3.1.2 does not work for me.
To login with Firefox, I need to 'Clear Private Data' from the Tools menu of Firefox - select everything except 'Saved Passwords'. Sometimes I need to do this twice and restart Firefox for good measure.

maaverix said Workaround ...

There is a workaround for installing Internet explorer in a Mac OSX. First you have to install DARWINE and then Install IE for OSX.
