Is the Media in India prone to corruption?

Imagine a situation,
A top head honcho of a firm needs to break through the market with his new product... But in order to do so, he launches a smear campaign through advertisements, news channels- THE MEDIA!
Media has the power to do anything in India! The following story illustrates further the power of media...
""A servant enrolled his donkey in a race & won.
The local paper read:'Servant's [Let's not get blocked by the Telco] WON'
The king was so upset with this kind of publicity that he ordered the servant notto enter the donkey in another race.
Next day the local paper headline read:'KING SCRATCHES SERVANT's [Let's not get blocked by the Telco]'.
This was too much for the king, he ordered the servant to get rid of thedonkey. He gave the donkey to the queen.
The local paper heading the news: "QUEEN HAS THE BEST [Let's not get blocked by the Telco] IN TOWN".
The king fainted.
Queen sold the donkey to a farmer for 10$.
Next day paper read:"QUEEN SELLS [Let's not get blocked by the Telco] FOR $10"
This was too much, KING ordered the queen to buy back the donkey & lead itto jungle.
The next day Headlines:"QUEEN ANNOUNCES HER [Let's not get blocked by the Telco] IS WILD & FREE"
The king was buried next day!"
This is called ...Power of media..

Very True when you are ...Very True when you are talking about the power of the Media. I dont know if they are prone to corruption but yes People are soooo gullible that they will believe anything.
And the MEDIA know that so they put full use of their resources to entice this gullible crowd. As they say the Pen is Mightir than the sword.
In recent times post the 2G scam i heard a lot about Barkha Dutt in connection with the Radia tapes. Again despite so called prrof i am finding it rather hard to believe that she was involved in some way.
I guess that is alo a form of gullibility - believeing that Media persons are above corruption...when in reality they are human just like everyone else and also fallible.....

Speedysid , unfortunately you ...Speedysid , unfortunately you got *bleeped* by the media. Ha ha (j/k).
If you are talking about advertisement, it is a completely different thing than let's say politics. I know a certain somebody who tried to compete with a bigwig company by advertising on local TV and newspaper. The next day he gets goons threatning him which eventually forced him to close his business. Media runs on advertisement.
As for corruption in media, I have the same view as Tinker. Sometimes I feel media has become a spokesperson for the ruling party. But than facebook and twitter as much part of media are places where one can get independent views. But for those who still rely on the old fashioned way - reading newspaper, they can be easily swayed.

Something about a tabloid ...Something about a tabloid scandal in UK reminds me of our very own phone conversations of Amar Singh and Bipasha made public.
Tinks : I feel the other way round. The popularity of Barkha Dutt and her association with political big wigs leaves no doubt about her involvement. Remember how she was allowed the coverage in Kargil. She posed a danger to the troops, big distraction. Just another in the line of sensational journalism.

Mom - im late replying ...Mom - im late replying here...
what you say is so right. i dont understand this larger than life images of anchors. they pose more of a threat than anything else. but yes i must say i am a big fan of Christiane Amanpour.....that lady has Balls!!!
The Media seems to be aboe to get away wioth anything these days if you ask me and privacy seems abso non existant which again brings us back to the argument - how private are we on the internet or even on the phones???

We can as well say that ...We can as well say that Barkha Dutt is Indian Amanpour or may be aspire to be one ;-) You are right about the internet and phone part. I think it is morally wrong to hack.

Well she strives to be but ...Well she strives to be but woll never be her......sorry but somehow i find barkha just jawing most of the time. Its like she never lets the other person speak but keeps injecting her own views more than needed......

Ha ha Tinks, bunch of dodo's. ...Ha ha Tinks, bunch of dodo's. I like that mark of honour. Ha ha. Right on spot about NDTV. I have a lot of respect for PM (lately that has been challenged in media) but the rest are just imbeciles.

The PM when he was just ...The PM when he was just handling Finance was the best. Now that BIYATCH has made him a puppet. and unfortunatley a great person like him has to succumb to it....political pressure and all that.
Somehow i feel its time that we started having youngsters in our political parties. Its refreshing to see Rahul Gandhi honestly. We have such OLD Codgers in every party and each one is vying with the other to stand in line to meet St Peter at the pearly gates.....
And yet they hold onto that CHAIR like holding onto dear life.....:-((

Tinkers do you seriously feel ...Tinkers do you seriously feel that Rahul Gandhi can survive even a day on that seat. He is just a pomp and show. Politics is such an occupation where the older you get the more your value increases unless one is born leader and lucky enough to enter politics.
When people say that PM has no say (and some of his party members also believe that !!!) I am surprised. When MMS said he has no obejection to Rahul becoming PM I smiled because the sly fox MMS knows just how to handle politicians. He is the most refined and polished politians and plays his card just right without getting perturbed by either opposition or his own party members. What is amazing is that even after so many scandals his coailation govt. is not collapsing. The only thing which I could'nt swallow was the attack on civilians when Ramdev was fasting.
I have absolutely no faith in BJP. And let's face it coalition is going to stay for long. So is there anyone fit to be PM ?

Well Rahul may or may not be ...Well Rahul may or may not be able to sustain but he is young and we need youngsters with new ideas and new way of doing things...not the same ol Corrupt oldies.....
i dont know - im not such a fan of politics actually but i hate to see the rampant corruption thats sooo open and nothing being done. Even the lokpal bill....im sure they will find ways and means to put in clauses to suit them selves!
i dont trust ANY politician whatever the party as they all have their OWN agenda and yes i too was angered by the Ramdev incident.....bad way of handling things.....

Tinker Manmohan has brought ...Tinker Manmohan has brought India financially to this level where we are able to sustain ourselves even when the rest of the world is on fire. I have a great respect for this man. When BJP was in power his financial policies were never questioned, even than.
As a democracy we are ourselves responsible for electing these corrupt politicians. And as active participants in corruption ourselves we become as much a part of it. So many Indians buy degrees (just one eg.) You and I both know there are more. (I am afraid to spill them lest Hemlata comes with her Jago re jago re jago re...... :-) As for not trusting politians it is shame on ourselves as a nation. I too don't trust politians but I feel responsible myself and feel I have failed myself.
You do have a point when you say we should give youngsters a chance but what new ideas have they put forth to win our confidence ? Rahul Gandhi commented "We cannot stop each and every terrorist attack" during the recent Mumbai attack- is that what is expected out of a leader. Where is his national pride. All he has done todate is padayatra in UP - prbably to shed some of his weight . Let him first get an Indian bride like Varun Gandhi.
Democracy has been maintained in a diverse cultural/social/lingual nation as ours and this is our only consolation. One day our corrupt politians will all die/leave and make place for the new generation but let's hope they are not like the old ones or more ambitious and corrupt. I'd like to see India more self reliant and red tapism disappear. Let's hope for the best.
