Our Favortie Recipies

charmed's picture

Here is a thread were we share our favorite reciepes ( the ones which we can always cook, and always taste great!)

Mine is a simple chilli which always goes down a treat when I make it!

Ingredients

Mince Beef ( I normally use enough for two people, this is based on two )
1 Onion
6 small hot chillis
Mushrooms
Tin Of Chopped Tomatoes ( if you can get ones with added chilli they go really well!)
Tin Of Baked Beans
2 Cloves of Garlic
Little pepper - black
2x Chilli Powder
1 x Coriander
1 x Papirka
Grated Cheese to sprinkle on top

How to make it:

Chop up the onion and the garlic and the chillis, heat this in a little oil in a frying pan along with all the spices- heat for about two mins

Then add the mince meat stir it in really well so the spices cover all the meat

Then add the mushrooms

Stir this till the meat goes a lovely brown colour ( for about seven mins)

Add the tin of tomatoes stir in really well

Add the tin of beans – stir in really well

Let simmer gently for about fifteen minutes till the excess liquid has simmerd away – but make sure there is some juice left so its not too dry

Then serve with some boiled rice and grated cheese on top! Yummy!

Thanks for the recipe. I've been looking for canned chilli (I'm too lazy) here in Qatar for a while. Haven't found any. Maybe I haven't looked hard enough. Any pointers?

Charmed is cooking cottage pie at the moment and thats another favourite of both of ours.
However, to all that follow her recipe for Chili, be careful it will blow your socks off completely.
Charmed is a great cook and thankfully I hardly ever cook (although I can and very well as I trained as a chef before embarking on my now chosen career)

Hi! I'm new, but I thought I'd put in one of my no-fail, and turns out perfect every time recipes: Mac and Cheese ! Sorry the proportions aren't exact- I learned to make this in vat-size from my grandma, and the whole thing can be adjusted for taste and portion size.

Ingredients:

1 package noodles (can be macaroni but really anything works)
about 4 tablespoons margarine or butter
about 4 heaping tablespoons flour
about a quarter cup milk
as much grated cheese as you can handle :)
crushed crackers to top

boil noodles.

while that's happening, put the milk in a saucepan and let heat till bubbles form along the edge- be careful it doesn't burn!

in bowl, mix flour and butter till it forms a paste. add slowly to butter, and stir till all melted. add cheese, stirring constantly until it's smooth. taste to make sure it's cheesy enough for you!

in a cassarole dish, combine the pasta with the cheese mixture. If you want creamier mac and cheese, make more of the cheese by upping the flour, butter, and milk content.

sprinkle crushed crackers on top. all types work, but the best I've found are Ritz.

bake in over till golden brown at 375, about half an hour depending on oven,

Here's the dessert to wrap up this comfort-food fest: Chocolate chip cookies

ingredients

1/4 pound butter (about half cup)
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1 and 1/4 cup flour
1 bag chocolate chips
extra fun: chopped pecans or hazlenuts- or both!

cream butter and sugar together. Add egg, salt, baking soda, and vanilla. add chocolate chips, then flour- add flour gradually- too much and cookies get an odd consistancy. experiment to see how much to get what you like.

grease cookie sheet. add by spoonfull onto sheet, and bake at 350 for about 10 minutes. watch how brown the get- the key to great, chewy cookies is to take them out slightly BEFORE you think they're done- they keep baking on the sheet even when they're out of the oven.

Only just found this site - interesting!

I noticed that Truth said your chilli would 'blow your socks off'! Hee

His comment got me checking how much chilli powder you use and I notice you don't say whether it's teaspoons or tablespoons as a measure!

2x Chilli Powder
1 x Coriander
1 x Papirka

Care to elaborate? (Before we ALL blow our socks off lol)
