Be thankful for Doha traffic
I'm posting this message in the "Missing Home" forum because I miss living in Doha and my friends there. I may be flying into Doha next week for a visit. Are there any QL events next week?
Another thing I miss is the traffic and driving. After leaving Qatar and living elsewhere, I appreciate the saner drivers. Qatar is a smaller country so traffic rules are easier to enforce.

are you sure ...Having lived a short time in Doha, with the last 20 years visiting and working in many countries I can honestly say Doha is the most dangerous place to be inside a motor, unless you own a large 4 x 4 and are prone to driving up the motor in front of you flashing your lights, peeping your horn and basically bullying anyone on the road that is not driving at speeds which carry the risks of causing accidents. This happens every day but that apart Doha is tops for me .
I would say if it wasnt for the traffic violations it would be the safest place in the world. May i ask what vehicle you were driving that you enjoyed it so much.
Speeding cost lives, but speeding in congested roads is total madness

Your life in Japan ...Sorry I haven't answered your messages. I have read both stories about how you are settling into life in Japan. It is good that you are enjoying life with your wife and her family. I read with interest that you enjoy walking and hiking along mountains. I really liked doing that in Korea. I would like to return to Korea to go mountain-hiking. I miss the many happy days hiking up mountains, sleeping on the peak, and waking to the dawn.
After a few more years in the Middle East, I may return to Korea and settle down. Unlike you, my wife's family only owns buildings in Seoul and has no family property out in the countryside. We also have invested in some properties in Seoul and are watching them grow (despite the world-wide property crunch).
Life here in Saudi Arabia is OK.

U CAN BE SAFE ...basically u have not to use the fast which is common everywhere the one on the left. It's for the people who want to speeed. I drove in Qatar for almost 8 years and I have sport car and havn't had any accident so u can be safe :)

the fast lane is supposed to ...the fast lane is supposed to be for overtaking only, once you have done it you have to move back to the slow lane. but in a two lane hiway like wakra-mesaieed this is difficult to follow because of the presence of many slow moving vehicles (eg dump trucks).
in any case if everyone follows the speed limit then there shouldnt be any problems.

Is the OP suggesting that ...Is the OP suggesting that drivers in Qatar are more "sane" than elsewhere?
If so, you are either blind or on crack.

WHAT?! ...They enforce traffic laws here?! Who would have known! I vote for both blind and on crack.

OK for the Middle East ...Should I reply or should I hold back? I've replied to threads on this topic before. When it comes to opinions on traffic, people are stuck to their opinions.
But I thought that Doha traffic was OK (for the Middle East). I wouldn't put up with such bad driving in Canada.
I tried to hijack my own post but nobody paid attention.

Will they even let you in? ...Don't you have a cancelled RP? Read the newspapers/other threads. If you have a cancelled RP you are not allowed back into Qatar for 2 years. No tourist visa for you.

Where is the speeding and ...Where is the speeding and recklessness..All I see is Congestion. Doesnt leave much space for speeding.. Any space for speeding is accompanied with red light cams and speed cams......
So Andysandy...If you do happen to make a recent visit. You'll find that a pram would be as safe as a truck on these roads.
