QP offer for Grade 16
I am from Europe, holding a Canadian passport, and I work for a construction company in Doha as a building services engineer. I have 10 years of experience, 2 years in Qatar.
Recently I have got an offer from QP with following conditions:
Indefinite contract
Position: Senior building services engineer – Grade 16
Location: Doha
Basic Salary: 20.500 QR
Housing allowance: 11.300 QR
Transportation allowance: 1.000 QR
Furniture allowance, schooling fees, air tickets, medical insurance.
37 working days of leave
Is this a realistic offer or shall I try to bargain? Is it possible to get any further allowances?
I would highly appreciate any advice or comment.

I would negotiate higher.
You cant get f*ck all for 11k anymore and the rent is still rising. If you want some kind of three bedroom villa you will need double that. Call around the real estate agents and get a feel for how much things are right now. I would ask them to provide a villa infact. As for the Trans. Allowance that is shit too, I would like to know where you can rent anything that moves for that.
Salary is ok...lots of Jobs in Qatar mate so bargain bargain bargain!!!! Do not cut your self short like I did beacuse one you are in it is hard to move up.

Allowances and offers are low ...Qp's allowances and offers have fallen way behind again and it doesn't look like they are planning on doing anything about it. It's going to get worse before it gets better.

What about WIA ...You have not mentioned western inducement allowance. It should be in the range of QR 3000-4000.
Being on Canadian passport, you should ask a minimum of QR 25000 as basic salary for grade 16.

Allowance are fixed ...Allowance are fixed throughout QP althought they are behind the times they will not increase for individuals. As for salary this also behind the times, but there is room for negotiation.

WIA ...Does anyone know what the WIA is linked to these days?
I know originally it was linked to the mid-point of each salary grade (when they had A to F). I don't know what happened to it when they re-graded in 1997.

abc150: I’m afraid they never mentioned WIA. Can you tell me what exactly WIA is, and who is entitled to get it? When you say basic salary 25k, do you mean inclusive of WIA or does it come on the top of it?

WIA ...WIA is western inducement allowance given to western/canadian/american passport holders. It is generally on top of basic salary. I mentioned 25k exclusively for basic salary. WIA should come on top of it. I dont have an idea the rate of WIA nowadays but I think you can negotiate this as well.

abc150 ...I think you will find that WIA is fixed depending on grade and nationality. That was certainly the original intention.
It was introduced when QP were unable to recruit Western staff in the early 90's and was relative to the mid-point of each grade and based on an exchange rate at the time of its introduction.
The original proposal was that it be paid in base country currency into a bank of the employee's choice. That however was later modifed to be paid in QR.
Local banks had been contacted to waive the need for having a minimum amount in a foreign currency account so that the amount could be paid in and subsequently avoiding any charges for conversion to base country currency.

j08_100k3r ...It was introduced when QP couldn't attract western staff. They had no problem recruiting from other regions

QP doesnt bargain with ...QP doesnt bargain with anybody, the managers all complain about shortages because HR wont approve better packages for ex-pats.

I left with the top of my head flat from banging it against a brick wall.
As usual, they will HAVE to react and then go OTT.

I have an Asian friends ...I have an Asian friends working in QP.. They have lower salary and allowance packages.. I think QP's offer for you is good enough but if you can bargain, then, go on..

in my husbands very first letter sent by QP it also had the same allowance amounts as yours. The salary is based on what your bringing to the table. If you are highly sought after then they will raise the basic salary offer however in grade 16 the max. is about 24k QR for someone highly experienced. Even the doctors in this grade (friend of husbands) is only on for about 22kQR basic salary.
