Photography in Qatar
I am an amateur photographer and as such, would like to ask regarding the policies about it here in Qatar?
Cos I was told that you cannot just take photos of places and people (here in Qatar) just like that and my interest lies on that.
Is that true? Or if it is, do I need to acquire any permit?
Any help, anyone? Thanks so much.
Also, if you could suggest places which are unique to Qatar and depicts the local culture.

Photography in Qatar ...My understanding no pictures of local people or government buildings. I had my camera confiscated for three weeks while walking on the big parking lot across the fire station taking pictures. I was taken to the military base there behind the walls and held up for about two hours. Finally got my camera back after calling and speaking to several people there.

You've been misinformed ...You can take pics of almost anything. People - make sure you ask first. Places - no problem except military and governemt establishments or where there is a specific "No Photo" sign.
For unique, go to Souq Waqif or the numerous forts.
If you are interested, there's a group of us doing a night shoot on the Corniche tomorrow at 7pm. Meet at Orry the Oryx
