So you are saying he was drunk ... ...... drove a car and killed someone and may end up having killed another innocent victim?
Sorry to hear this, but no sympathy here for the driver.
Driving drunk is premeditated murder in my book.
Did you Google it first?

DEATH..... ...... is the consecuence, regardless the country.
Driving under alcohol is like playing with a loaded gun. The difference: maybe u can play alone with a gun, if u drive u are sorrounded by innocent people, so just take a taxi, or walk if u cannot stop drinking, this is what i do.

mafiriyals please PM the lawyers contacts ...Tallg, driving drunk is not right, i know that and would never do it myself, but the fact is, my friend did it and is currently in hospital in critical condition but i am afraid that as soon as he wakes up, he'll be locked up immediately even before he gets 100% well.

One of the vendors on our site did this and he was picked up, thrown in jail and deported. The rule is you cannot be in a public space under the influence.

I need a solution here.

i think it is much better to ...i think it is much better to get a taxi and pick up your car next day. i do that myself if i will go drinking somewhere my wife will drive or i will take a taxi home. next day i call any friend to drive me to my car. easy safe and fun also. we drink to enjoy and have fun not to keep our life and future in risk.

Kim, the situation was agrevated by the fact that,... ...your friend was drunk driving. But whether he is drunk or not, car accident like this (that involves losing lives) is already a very serious matter. As everybody suggested, look for a good lawyer and hope for the leniest of the worst penalty/ies that your friend will undergo. It will be very hard for anyone to sympathize with your friend.

Question is ...What kind of a sentence is he likely to face?
kim said
Found something ...From Gulf times http://www.gulf-time...
"Motorists who commit violations like driving with no authorised licence, driving under the influence of liquor, driving in the opposite direction of traffic flow, escaping from the accident site, causing sound and air pollution and exceeding the speed limit would be punishable by imprisonment from one month to three years or fined QR10,000 to 50,000 or both."

Holy cow Kim, he killed ...Holy cow Kim, he killed someone. He will pay at least 150,000 to the family of the deceased on top of what he gets for the crime. In Canada drunk driving resulting in a fatality is manslaughter, which carries a pretty hefty jail term.

It is very sad but true. ...Do you think the sentence is transferable? That is, If the family requests, can he be sent to his home country to serve the jail term there?
Amoud said
I dont think so Kim... To be ...I dont think so Kim... To be honest, he doesnt deserve to be made comfortable, or to be near his family as they request. He took someone away from their family permanantly.

Firstly, drink driving is ...Firstly, drink driving is morally wrong. But I think your question is really:
what are the legal consequences of drink driving?
Given that there are no random breath tests for alcohol, you only get caught for drink driving if you are involved in an accident, and the police test you.
Being drunk in public, ie walking out of a hotel to get into a taxi, is technically illegal too, but again, the police have to actually catch you in the act. If you decide to walk down the souqs for a kebab after a night of it, and you are unfortunate enough to get caught, you will probably get deported.
kim said
mafiriyals, its not about him being prince charles or whatever.. ...Is it a matter of him being near his family.
Thank you anyway for answering the question regarding the transfer and the PM.

kim - this is ...This is a serious crime in Qatar, it is carried as manslaughter, one person is dead an another person may die on top of it. The blood money was raised to QR 200,000 per death this year, and the verdict will definately depend upon the family/families of the deceased.
How the sentence will turn out is difficult to make a prognosis anyway it definately means hard time.
If you are talking about his family requesting him serve the time in his own country- I am sure this request will not be taken into consideration but they may speak to his embassy about the sentence if necessary.
What really is a point is that apart from him needing a lawyer and how long will his sentence be is there any compassion here for the dead person and his family not to mention the other drive who is also injured and was most probably not drunk?

Kim, in many other countries ...Kim, in many other countries he could be imprisoned for life which I don't think will happen in Qatar. He may actually get off more lightly here in terms of a prison sentence because of the payment of blood money.

I am not trying to say that the act he did is commendable coz the other guy who passed away is my friend as well but i am just trying to get my friend out of trouble. That's what friends are for, right?
