Vista Home Editon

Hi guys and gals, I just bought an HP laptop with Vista OS. I find it so slow in both turning on and off compared to my good ol Windows XP. Is it a bad idea shifting from XP to Vista? The laptop speed is 2.0 1GBRam and 120GB hard disk.

hey lamborjeep... ...i bought an HP about a month ago with vista - it's ridiculous how slow it is. do you think that's normal, or something that will get resolved with some upcoming patches?
you thinking about going back to XP?

Vista is slow ...I also made the mistake of installing windows vista ultimate edition in my laptop and it was so slow that i had to format the whole hard disk.
I dont think anything will change windows vista. Maybe a new generation of processors from intel might

mufy ...yes, its all in there. I have trouble also installing other equipment to my lap top, such as printer etc. etc.my antivirus is not also acceptable with vista. i have to get a new antivirus which is vista for only

other softwares compatibility issues ...Vista is not only slow, it also has many compatibility issues with most of the softwares i use, which makes it suck!! many softwares have installation problems and that warning message that always pop up when you're trying to run a program is so annoying. the company i work for issued me a dell inspiron 6400 with windows vista basic installed, and after using it for 2 days i replaced it with windows xp professional. hehe. well that's just my opinion. i haven't used the vista ultimate yet. i just wish it gives the user more freedom. astig parin xp para saken hehe!

twentyfive81 ...is it ok to reformat my HP and change the OS to XPpro? I doubt that it might affect other program and my not run at all? please enlighten

lamborjeepney ...just be sure you have all the drivers you need and that it supports xp. when i formatted my dell i used the driver cd of the same laptop model but with XP installed. thats why i didnt have any problems with the hardware. about the programs, i think xp can support most programs than vista since only few softwares are made to run specially for vista. if u hav doubts just try to install your programs first to xp if its running well.
Also make sure you have all the cd's included in your HP, recovery cd's etc. so u can bring your HP back to its original os. just for assurance. hehe.

I just... ...I just did a clean install with Vista over my XP and it worked pretty good, my PC is definitely faster and other than a few driver glitches it is still doing good after two weeks. The speed may be attributed to all the junk being removed but I don't think so. Vista has rated my PC perfromance at 3.4 and that's not to bad I guess. I am not going to run out and change my cpu and motherboard for a few nanoseconds.
It almost sounds like a HP problem, I ran a Vista compatibilty test 1st and that helped me make the decision plus I was bored and love to reload all my programs on the weekend.

the reason vista is slow... ...vista requires a minimum of 1 gig of ram to run properly... THAT DOESNT INCLUDE ANY OTHER PROGRAM YOU RUN...
what i mean by that is once you start a game or start another software that didnt come with windows... you are now taking away from that 1 gig it needs... plus i bet your laptop only has 512 of ram...
now that doesnt mean if you add 2 gigs of ram its going to be blazing fast...
i just bought this laptop 3 weeks ago... and bought to gigs of ram to go with it... cause i knew the laptop had vista...
but before i installed the new ram... i tested it with the stock 1 gig... to get an idea how much better it is with more ram
well once i started the computer up it asked to go to basic mode...
(vista has different modes which allow for better viewing)
then when it was done loading ... i noticed my ram count was pegged out... meaning i was all out of ram because vista was running it into the ground...
so i shut the comp down ... installed the new ram
viola... it runs decent...
oh and as for all those warnings you can shut them off threw the control panel...
it still has problems running alot of programs i use... but thats fine cause in a few more months service pack to will be out...
but running xp instead of vista... is not a bad idea at all... hell i tell everyone not to get vista
ahhahahahahahaha

one good tip ...dont turn the pc off
if u want to turn it off just press on hibernate it saves everything
n when u start the computer again it starts really faster than rebooting
n the laptop doesnt lose power when its in the hibernate mood
coz it's already turned off
:)
still xp is faster
but vista is good looking

Vista... ...Hi all, Just read the previous posts and have a bit of advise. I've been running vista and XP dual boot on both my laptop and the Desktop for the past 3 months. And both run great. Lambo the problem doesn't seem to be in your stock hardware. Thats ok. But Vista unlike XP does a lot of Direct X 10 processing through its API and the best way to make it run fast (real fast!!!) is not by upgrading the ram but adding a graphics accelerator card. That takes a huge load off the ram. In fact even the Aero interface is fast.
Go in for one of the newer DX10 cards, like the Nvidia 88 series. Don't know the corresponding ATI cards, but the should be available. Try it out and you'll see the difference.
Hope that helped.......bye all....
