Why Arabs are Rude
In general, I find Arab people are NOT gentle. I am telling that from my 14 years of experience in the gulf. I mean most of them are rude. I see it in every segment of people not only higher class.
Can anyone tell me if that is ego problem (Superiority complex) or something else?
I know every where we will find bad-mannered people but in Arab's you will find plenty of the them.
Yesterday i faced the same in customer service( I doubt) in Jarir book shop.

Thats funny - yes I have had ...Thats funny - yes I have had some of the same experiences but then some of them have been nice. Maybe we could have an honest comment from an Arab person as to why they might appear this way to us???

I also wouldn't say ...all of them are rude. Most of them are really nice, or at least I met with the nice ones, or didn't really had any trouble with them.
But I guess it's from their culture. Look at the children, they do whatever they want, and nobody controls them, even if they kick the waiter. So when they grow up, they still think that the word is serving them.

To be honest, I think they can come across as abrupt because of their English accent which could be mistconstrued as rudeness.

I haven't found Arabs to be ...I haven't found Arabs to be any ruder then any other nationality. In general, being raised in Canada, where everyone (regardless of race) is polite to a fault, I find EVERY other culture rude. :p

As with all people there are ...As with all people there are a few who are rude, but if you find that they're ALL being rude tyou should probably take a look at yourself and what you're doing to invite that attitude, because most of us don't find that to be the case.

Perspective ...It's a matter of perspective. When going to Holland and Denmark I was warned the people can seem rude, it's only coz they are more direct than I'm used to in the UK.
The Qataris I work for are very pleasant and I find politeness rewarded by politeness in for example holding a door open for someone I get a thank-you.

Understanding their Culture might be one way to findout.. ...The literal meaning of the word arab is "arrogant" or superior. Just like the Jews have their beliefs that they are the chosen ones, the similar view are held by the closest relatives that they are superior race.
In the olden days the Arabs were the ones who were exemplar in the day to day buisness there were master of their own language and other languages.
So in conclusion my understanding the mind sets and the culture the complexity comes to life.
No wonder the Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) stressed so much on this issue in his last sermon :"that an arabs has no superiority over a non arab and vice versa, the only one may have over each other is based on how pious one is" .

Good question ...Actually arab are nomadic beuiodins who were wondering in the deserts and still they are. they have no proper culture.If you see arab history 2 things made them to stand up to other cultures
1. Islam a Phenomina of few centuries
2. Petro dollars a Phenomina of few decades
Using Islam arabs can impose their culture on other cultures in the name of god
using petro dollers they were able to buy things which was a luxury few decades back
A set of people disadvantaged for centuries suddenly get some power it shows in their arrogant behavior.
THe same type of behavior you can see in dalits in INDIA who are opressed for centuries.
If a arab is arrogant to you just stand up and talk stright and see he will be like a rat. THey usvally show arrogance to people of perticular communities, who are weak.

One one of the most common ...One one of the most common mistake people make is "generalizing". Stereotype is common among the less educated people. You don't see a well educated person saying "All.... are... such and such". First of all I was surprise to hear that "All Arabs are rude" from someone with a nickname "Ontario". I am an Arab-Canadian. When I first went to Canada in the 90's I faced discrimination and racesim from Canadain by birth of course of european origin as most canadian are. I did not make a judgment that all Canadians are racsit. And defintly I did not say All North American are for that matter, knwoing how racsit american could be.
If I have a bad experience with some people in a european country, I would not say that everyone in that country are bad, rude,... and I would not generalize it to all european....
Sorry for saying that but only ignorent person who lived only the GULF would say "All arabs". Because a well educated (and we wll know educated doesn't necessarly mean having a university degree, mos of the skilled workers here do not have a degree but they are well educated in life.) person would know that the Gulf represents no more than 30% of Arabs. Go to Morrocco, Algeria, Lebanon, Syria,....... to name a few and see if they are all rude. Hell go to Bahrain, Oman and see ho wnice they are.
I don't deny that there are rude arabs but that could be said about any other natianlity or race. Some Qataries are rude but some of them are nice as well.
Finally, If you realy think that all arab are rude why on earth did you put up with them for 15 years and you still do. Go to another country where people are not rude. Or is it a typicall view of the west to the east and arabs in particular that " They are rude, not educated, terrorist. animal killers, but we have to deal with them because we need their OIL and MONEY."
I have never been ashamed of being Arab and never will, as well as I have never been ashamed of being Canadian and never will. However, I do feel ahsamed when an Arab or a Canadian make such a stupid comment like the one you made.

Not true ...That is not entirely true.. I work in an Arab dominated organization and majority of them are locals. I find them very gentle, polite and respectful. They treat expatriates like us very kindly. I am sure many here will agree with me.

Well of course in every ...Well of course in every nationality there rude people, very naive not to believe that, but here in Doha, i find some Arabs are very rude. for example, when im walking around in malls, i find that some Arabs will push my kids out of the way to get ahead, not walk around them, if you are entering through doors, they will push in, rather than wait until you have walked through the doors, simple things like that..Sorry but personally i havent come across a lot of non arabs here in Qatar that do those sorts of things,and before anyone jumps down my throat, i said some not all.

Gentle with Families ...What I experienced, I found mostly Arabs are gentle with families. They respect you, if you are with ur family. Most of the Qataris respect females which are in proper Abayas and Hijab. I noticed this at many places, shopping malls, parkings, souks, at give a ways scenarios.
It is good and appreciable but they shud treat all in same manner.

Well of course no one would say anything, because its a favorable thing to say. why would anyone reject a compliment? this sort of attitude is what further divides people.
Its not fair for to generalize in this way. not to mention just because people generalize all the time, does not make it okay, or validate ontarios reason for doin so.
I find Americans to be very polite compared to English people, however i also know that Americans are more likely to walk into a school and shoot all the teachers and a few students before topping themselves.

and if you are talking about GCC citizens, like in other nations, educated people act differently, very nice and helpful,but unfortunately the maids are raising the kids, and the maids are not always educated, and the parents are busy with the new lifestyle, because of that you see the naughty kids, it is not an excuse, they should do something about it, i agree.

Most Arab talk with loud VOICE thats why you misunderstood them that they sounds fighting with you, i handle lot of clients like this -and am only 7Mos here- but most of them are not ma they just want to understand what are you trying to tell them and ocassionaly its NORMAL to them that they talk with LOUD voice.
What i like most in Arabs is that they are still conservative and religious type..
regarding the behavoir of Children that commented above, many times i encounter bad behavior of young arab children i observed that they are just children as normal 'when i was sitting along with my mom in fast food eating there was few young boys kicking my chir disturbing me while i ate, am not pissed off i smiled and offer to give him fries, i even asked him where he go for school and it ended up nice .. he waved goodbye after and seems to be a sweet boy-
So its better to GIVE OTHER PEOPLE THE BENEFIT OF THE DOUBT and LESS JUDGEMENTAL to people specially with different nationality around the GLOBE -not only Arab-

I know this from experience, especially because my own father speaks very loudly and my non-Arab relatives tell me they feel incredibly intimidated by him! Lol. But really, he wouldn't hurt a fly!

I don't know about arabs. It didn't look like everybody there was Qatari. I got the impression that most people were expatriates from alot of different countries.

It is 50/50 now, the more multicultural people they will live in - they will feel the need to change their attitude.
Bring more of your liked type people here to make it a better place to live with and let them experience goodness from yourside.
I feel power is something which makes you a bit rude and too much proud! They are controlling your jobs and money so the fault is in the system which they designed to keep us under control. We can not see the same liberty and freedom we enjoy in western cultures so when we compare with them certainly it will take time to change that much!
