Limit Private Tutoring by starting a TV Station?
Either the journalist misunderstood what was going on, or else this has to be the worst reason to start a TV station (ever):
Qatar plans to set up an educational TV station in a bid to limit illegal private tutoring, the Peninsula reported. The project could be launched within the next three years, according to Education Minister Nouriya Al Sabeeh. The station would also keep parents up to date with their children's education, Al Sabeeh said.

Not effective at all. ...Rampant illegal tutoring reflects unreliable public education.
I don't think education TV Channel can stop tutoring.
In Korea, private education is unbelivably high..tutoring..private institutions teaching school subjects, English and preparing collage exams.
Yes, we have education channel..
The Ministry of Education announced the contents of the channel will be reflected on the college enterance exams, which is held once a year.
But it's just useless. Nothing can stop private tutoring.
Yes..you are right..that is the worst reason to set up the station.
And..more suprisingly, I can't believe Qatar still doesn't have education channel..

illegal tutoring? ...I don't understand. Why would it be illegal to hire a private tutor?

I dont think that its gonna work ...I totally agree with ngourlay. Why is it illegal to hire a private tutor? There is absolutely nothing wrong in hiring a private tutor. In fact there are some private tutors out there who are better teachers.
The proposed channel will not be a better or a suitable replacement. It doesnt make any sense as that channel will not be able to cater to the needs of every student.
