Prostitution Thread

What happened here?
Seems to me some of us were having a sensible discussion about prostitution in Qatar and the thread vanished???
Am I missing something?
I did not see anything deserving of sensoring/editing unless we look at the original post, and I am sure that could have been dealt with seperately and so keeping the thread 'alive'.
Or is it being implied that we bury our head in the sand and pretend it does not exist here?
Can we continue here ...................?

It's not that China, it was ...It's not that China, it was deleted because the thread was trolling and promoting prostitution, such threads that promote something whether it was prostitution or otherwise gets deleted. But it wasn't cause of the topic itself so we can continue here :-)
CYman said
It was a prostitution spam ...that's why it was deleted. I was the one who reported it to Qatari.
Nevertheless the thread was becoming interesting. I'm sorry :(
May the roof above us never fall in, and may the friends below never fall out!
Cornellian said
So let's talk about it here! ...So let's talk about it here! :-)
I'm surprised that prostitution is that open in what is considered a conservative country, I mean if it's so obvious that these women are prostituting them, then I'm sure authorities know about it...the question is...why aren't they doing anything about it ?
China Syndrome said
OK, thats understandable, ...OK, thats understandable, thank you.
It also underlines mir83 and my point that we believed prostitution is less tolerable here in Qatar.
However, the fact remains that prostitution is wide spread in certain places in Qatar and thrives, until something is said by somebody, and then the routine mass deportations take place.
It goes quiet for a while, and then the 'night girls' start building up in numbers again to the level they are now.
My last sentence, before the previous thread was deleted was something like this, 'mark my words, the ladies will vanish any day now. Over the few weeks after that, their numbers will slowly increase again, and the cycle repeats it's self'.
Obviously somebody is behind this (a pimp), as a sponsor for these girls.
Cornellian said
If someone is actually ...If someone is actually behind this (which I believe so), it has to be someone in a high position, someone who has control over authorities...what other explanation is there for the lack of action by the authorities ?
China Syndrome said
Cornellian, somebody ...Cornellian, somebody answered this on the previous thread just before it was deleted. I cannot recall the poster, but it was suggested that some body in authority, possible with some 'wasta' to throw around, was probably behind it. My apologies if I have not recalled what was said precisely, but I would go along with that theory anyway. There are just far too many girls, far too often, in so many places for it to be anything else.
Unless somebody knows differently ofcourse ................?
China Syndrome said
looks like we are on the ...looks like we are on the same wave length here. I would guess that the authorities are 'bending' to a certain extent under the threat of this 'person's' wasta. The final breaking point is probably reached when the religious fraternity start to object/speak out.
bajesus said
prostitutes ...Arrrggghhhh my country is going to the dogs!! Oh well you know what they say....if you cant beat'em join'em! JK :-P
Cornellian said
But if that "pimp" is ...But if that "pimp" is powerful enough to keep the authorities quiet, then he must be powerful enough to keep the religious fraternity too.
I think no matter what anyone says or does, prostitution will always exist everywhere, because there will always be women who need the money and men who are ready to pay.

Prostitution syndrome ...Exactly that seems to be the only valid reason... So Oasis doesnt have any pros as far as I knw and they dont ostensibly act in a way so as to coerce the customers in a friendly mannner.... I have been to most of the clubs out here and the image here is like maintained ...Culture is the only thing out here...So my question is that what are the penal charges and how different are they for an asian and a western man running behind pros ? I have seen majority of the brits running arnd with these chinese females... I guess the syndrome is just like 'the Other side of the grass is always green'
The place is filled with pimps perhaps.... Dubai is also not too tolerant there are police vans always on the go in jeeps to monitor the place, So finally the same old question: Shud prostitution be legalised as in the west?
Cornellian said
Not really, they'll just ...Not really, they'll just find somewhere else to prostitute.
bajesus said
Oh Corne ...My sweet corne....tell me something I DONT know! not only that I know plenty of "people" who pay for their services and guess what? only 1 is Qatari.
Scarlett said
prostitution legal in the west??? ...not in America...but we sure do have prostitutes..but they are illegal and are regularly busted and thrown in jail..course quickly released as soon as their pimp posts bail for them. corne is correct..its the oldest job and will remain so as long as there is a market for it...which there always will be...
mir83 said
Lets see ...Hey cornellian I have very less knowledge about all this out here.
WHy dont we guys meet up at the Oasis/Qube next weekend? Give us an orientation about the culture and the place....That wud be a gud idea perhaps? ONly then we will get a better picture of the place... Our knowledge is limited to extremism and all that the media world projects about the islamic world and its levels of tolerance....
Its just like they had banned all bikinis at the Diplomatic club and then at the DJ parties I find all the females esp the lebanese & indian origin wearing nthng precisely.... Its just turning out to be opposite.....

I dont think some big fish behind... ...I dont believe that there is big fish behind this trade. But AGENT? Yes! and some of them were thrown in jail and some are now sitting in their hometown.
It could be one reason why the authority put restrictions to issue tourist visa on single woman of certain nationalities. It was also in the papers(i read) that hotels & travel agencies were given warning and controls over issuing tourist visas. But of coarse they could not ban every single woman entering the state.
Its easy to get tourist visa, go to any travel agency or NO-star hotels, bring QR500/ with you and the persons passport copy, return back after 3-5 days and you'll get the visa for your friend. So imagine if you are an AGENT to this ladies, do you think you need big wasta in bringing them here? NO! but on the other hand, its sad to think that the authority became paranoid that even a single descent woman who came as tourist are considered as suspect in this business:(((
China Syndrome said
According to a poster on the ...According to a poster on the deleted thread, apparently he/she observed 30+ prostitutes in the Oasis, so I guess they do have prostitutes there.
And your in dreamland if you think that 50% of the girls will be gone by closing the Cube. They will go else where, thats if the Cube caters for 50% of all prostitutes in Qatar, which I doubt it.
As was said already, prostitution will always be here (and every where else) in one form or the other, always has been, always will.
The question is then, what are the pros and cons of legalising prostitution here in Qatar? Would it be a good thing, or a bad thing?

Anyway, they are probably recovering from the night before and catching up on their beauty sleep. Also, I assume their customers are probably at work anyway.
Sorry rizorido, your going to have to become a 'night man' and get your self out and about during the dark hours if you are that desperate for a bit of 'companionship'. Unless there is a sleepless 'gal' on QL who is going to PM you for some overtime lol, or maybe a pimp might drop you a line!!!

China Syndrome ...Although it might be true that there is an abundance of prostitutes here but still, don't you think you're still exaggerating a wee bit? I mean like you said "prostitution will always be here (and every where else) in one form or the other, always has been, always will" but please dont think for one minute that the authorities condone something like this or that they allow themselves to contend with this issue. Moreover, your claim that "some body in authority, possible with some 'wasta' to throw around, was probably behind it" is still based on mere speculation if nothing else so unless you have some solid proof to back up your claim dont go around putting flase ideas in people's heads and feeding into their fenzy by saying things like "legalising prostitution here in Qatar" and passing it as fact.

I think we need as a group perhaps visit such places and find for ourselves wether there is prostitution or not or as the thread claims how true it could be?
Even I have seen very few filipinas or chinese females with expat males out here....

From what I've read about ...From what I've read about human trafficking most of these girls are brought in to be waitresses or domestic servants and when they arrive here they are pushed into prostitution. So my guess is it isn't one big pimp but several little ones, probably working under the guise of a legitimate business.
The most important thing to remember is that most of these girls are not out there doing this because they want to be, most of them are uneducated and have no other choices. Many are force ably addicted to drugs and abused.
And if you push them out of the bars they will operate from their homes.
I'm a firm believer in the legalization of prostitution, simply because I believe that it isn't going anywhere and by legalizing it we an edge in ensuring that the women (and men) are not victims of human trafficking, abuse and they have the proper medical treatment and protection.

Apple, I don't agree with you ...I will repeat what I mentioned in the deleted thread.
I went to Oasis ground floor bar with some friends. There were more than 30 chinese girls practically blocking the entrance chatting to each other and. We had to force our way through. Within an hour or so these girls were all over the place keeping company to "gentlemen". Btw I am not a "gentleman" lol. In the next one hour their numbers started diminishing as they were leaving with the men they were at the tables.
If such a massive show of prostitution does not need a protection of a big fish, then what?

They only do something when the situation gets to extremes or theres complaints. This isn't because they are lax or bad cops, but because there is more important things to worry about then busting some poor girls who probably get smacked around by their pimp every night.

I agree with Gypsy, ...prostitution should be legalised. It's the only way to keep some kind of control over these activities, like periodical medical check ups, hygiene, over-exploitation issues, drug using etc.
If anybody has the opinion that by closing down the places where they are hanging out, they will just disappear he/she is wrong.
As Scarlet said in the US prostitution is illegal and yet according to The National Task Force on Prostitution over one million people in the US have worked as prostitutes in the United States, or about 1% of American women.
This proves that even the wealthiest and stronger country on the planet could not stop the phenomenon.

As for the authorities, I agree with you, I dont think they condone it, but as cornellian said, the authorities must obviously know about this problem, therefore, why the lack of action? Can you explain if they dont condone it, why not act?
I am Sorry if I upset you in any way bajesus, I did not mean to, everybody, including yourself, seem to be nice people here, so dont take it personally.
This (prostitution) is a problem every where, not just here in Qatar. Even many other countries are faced with the decision on whether to legalise prostitution or not, I believe it is a hot topic in the UK at the moment.

I'm not surprised at what CYman said at all! although I've not been to the Oasis a friend of ours, who has been here for a couple of years now, DID mention the Oasis in similar terms. He isn't the type to go there, but was something he mentioned when we asked about places to go and what the places were like.
I met a WASTA pimp once! (although I didn't then realise that was what he would be known as) But that was in Saudi and another story and a long time ago ... suffice to say I was with Saudi girls and thought I was going to an 'all girls' party! Ain't life interesting ;D

........... OK, look at it .............. OK, look at it from this percpective, we have had reports of 30+ prostitutes in Oasis, lots of people are aware of this from the postings here. Lots of other people are aware of prostitution at other places, so we can assume it is widely known by now.
As cyman said, somebody tells tales of two people in a relationship, and they are 'raided'.
So where is the action here?
....... and it is not a 'heavy accusation', read again, I merely posed the question
"........... why the lack of action? Can you explain if they dont condone it, why not act?"

It's crystal clear guys and gals. More than 30 chinese girls, most of them wearing really sexy, slutty I would say outfits, were standing between the entrance and the bar looking for customers. The place was not crowded. As it started getting busy with just men (no even one couple was there) they started approaching them. Men also started approaching. Some time later almost everyone of these girls was on the tables or on the bar with a man. By the time we left about half of them left with their companions.
Now what else do you want to believe me. I haven't followed them further :)
Gypsy, I have no idea who brings them in. I am pretty sure that it's all organised. Everybody can make his/her guess as to who is behind this.

Hi Swissgirl, ...There are so many reasons people go with prostitutes. No wonder why it's been one of the most popular jobs since humans existence on earth.
First you find the sex starved people who even go with animals, never mind prostitutes.
Then you have those who are obsessed with buying, thus owning a woman, even for 1 or 2 hours, or even minutes.
Also you find men who find it difficult to make relations and this is the only way to be with a woman.
The most weird is to listen to men telling stories about their encounters with prostitutes and getting pride out of it. So I guess so many different reasons are there.
Mind you it is estimated that in the US 20% of prostitutes are male :)

Legalized prostitution U.S. ...Under Nevada state law, any county with a population of fewer than 400,000 is allowed to license brothels if it so chooses (NRS 244.345).
In Rhode Island, the act of sex for money is not illegal, but street solicitation and operating a brothel are.
The happiness of a man in this life does not consist in the absence but in the mastery of his passions.

CYman ...I was not offended at all but I apologize if I appeared that way. But see that's exactly the point....it's so easy to be misinterpreted and taken out of context that one should be careful with their choice of words and have sufficient evidence if they want to support claim....I do agree that this is a nice thread and I like the different opinions expressed here but I don't consider it to be a "sensible discussion" when people try to pass hearsay as the truth...like it or not to some extent that is what you appear to be doing (at least to me)...there might be a possibility that its organised prostitution and some "pimp" is behind it but there's also a possibility that its not....until then if I dont hear solid proof to back you and others up then Im going to continue to consider it as mere hearsay...and that is just 'my' opinion...nothing personal ;-) God I am exhausted!

Furthermore ...As a Qatari I feel obligated to project as truthful an image of Qatar as possible. Bear in mind that QL is a source of information which provides insight for many members/non-members who have not visited or come to Qatar yet...be objective...that is why I stress the "be careful with words" part :-)

and as a Qatari ...we are guests in your country and happy that you feel you wish to see how us ex-pats think, by joining this forum and wanting to know us.
however, we are here on this forum to express our thoughts and give opinions, not to be muzzled.
I don't think that was qatari's idea when he opened QL.
We DO have other qatari nationals in QL and they enjoy the banter and appreciate that we, as expatriates, are trying to help other expatriates in an expat world! :D

Lure of sex-Money Money business ...Bearing in mind all the gudelines and the fact that it wants to become a tourist attraction like Dubai, what my opinion is that Prostitutes exist everywhere on this earth, but each one has the choice & not the obligation to remain in the said profession for making money. But AIDS is quite rampant in the UAE. Will such a place(like Qatar) gradually denigrate its values and give a legal recognition to illegal professions like Prostitution and many will face the same sort of culture shock.. Only time will tell....

I know what you mean ...I know what you mean bajesus, and I understand. However, a lot of people here have observed the prostitute scene, and their reports are truthful, I believe cyman also, (oasis) no reason not to. Unless you have positive proof to discredit their statements, you cannot class them as liars, just because you have not seen it for your self.
As QL is a source of information, as you say for many members and non members, we expect them to believe us on all other subjects i.e. visas, hospitals, schools, shopping etc etc, so why not this subject aswell.
It is only a discussion and they will draw their own conclusions from what is said all round from everybody. And I am sure they will have already decided, from what you have said, that Qatari's are also proud of their country, and rightly so, as much as the next person is of theirs.

A question from all QL ...What will be the first step for the reformation of that type of men and women?
How thier behavior will be changed from bad one into good one.?
I think if we provide them a better way from the bad one, then ,offcourse they will not involve thierselves in prostitution again.
And is reform only the responsibility of authorities, not us as well.?

Jauntie ...I can only speak for myself and not other Qatari's on here. I think you misunderstood me. Anyway, I said what I had to say and I think China got my point so I accomplished something I suppose.

Definition???????? ...Am afraid this thread might not reach where it is supposed to.
Anyhow, there are some points that need to be clarified or highlighted:
1. What is the definition of pros? is it simply sex for money (without asking and without wasting time)? This issue would indirectly answer sg39 question about the desire for pros's
2. Remember that pros is the oldest profession in history.
3. Pros exist everywhere from the most conservative countries to the most liberal ones, also amongst all religions.
4. Would somebody answer me how would a poor bachelor (male or female) survive for one or two years if not more without love+sex or without sex at least.
5. If such a need for sex exists, should it be controlled (areas allowed, medical inspection) or just left to be practises by anyone anywhere?
I am not in a mood to write my thesis about these points over the weekend. Just staying lazy at home enjoying the A/C breeze :)
Guess we should think of a table about the count of "known" pros per club/area :)

and, bajesus, you asked about joining social groups when we go out (in the Social Group) I just wish more Nationals felt able to. I don't mean the occasions involving alcohol, just the coffee evenings or trips on a dhow etc. but I guess it isn't possible :(

You're very very wrong there ...You're very very wrong there Mir83, most prostitutes, especially the ones in Aisa, are not prostitutes by choice. They are victims of human trafficking and slavery.

:o) bajesus ...It would be a pleasure to chat with you outside these threads - I 'lose' the 'thread' quite often *S*
But, seriously, I love living in Qatar - same as I enjoyed Saudi and (to some extent! Iraq) all those years ago - mainly because of the people I met, both local and expat :D

Nobody is saying that Qatar ...Nobody is saying that Qatar is a bad country because it has prostitution Baj. EVERY country in the world has prostitution. Which is why it should be legalized and controlled, not shoved under the rug.
