Christmas Shopping in Doha

dyaryoman46's picture

Hi, Chris Panganiban here from The Peninsula. Christmas is just around the corner and I would like to solicit from everyone their experiences on a discussion on Christmas shopping in Doha. Alam ko naman na tayo mga Pinoy dito sa Doha ay busy na talaga sa pagbalot ng mga Christmas gifts and goodies you will send back home this early to avoid Christmas rush. So how is it going right now? Saan ba kayo kadalasan pumupunta para magshopping? Malls? Souqs? Ano bang mga items na karamihan binibili ninyo ngayon na ipapadala? With this, I would like to ask everyone a permission to use this reactions for the story I am working. It's alright if you do not want to reveal your name. Just give me an idea , if ever, ano work niyo dito. Or if meron iba dyan na willing naman to come out in the open that would be most welcome. Maraming salamat po!

For my nephews I go to Toys R Us for shopping. For my teenage son it's a little difficult, because gifts are getting expensive as a child grows older, so I went to Villagio for a laptop. For the rest of my family it would be clothes, perfumes, bags from various shops, like Jamil, City Center and even from the Souq. Anything that is nice but within the budget is fine. Gifts don't have to be branded. I am not colonial-minded, anyway. And my family don't even ask. With or without gifts from me, they never complain.

though, i dont really send packages to the Philippines on Christmas. I just send them cash and let them have their own shopping there. for my nephews and niece in the US, i order it through amazon.com and have it delivered to them in time for christmas.

What'll I get you for Christmas around here? A hookah? An SUV? A free supply of gas for your car? 2 5 Gallons of drinkable water?

But then again you're just a simple girl. I'll probably give you a bar of soap. Merry Christmas! XP

dyaryoman46 said Interview ...

Sorry ma'am but I have to make this clear this isn't an interview but reaction gathering. I hope u don't mind at all if I get your reactions here on a particular issue like Christmas shopping not only in Manila but Doha as well. I did some other research on a larger perspective like OFWs not only send US 1 billion a month to their families back home of which a bulk of this amount goes to spending on shopping. That is why, according to studies, the three biggest shopping malls in the world are located in Metro Manila. It is because malling (not to be confused as shopping) has become a national past time. So why do malls thrive in a poor country like ours? It is the emergence of OFWs, and their families as reliable customers of shopping malls. In short, malls , not only in Manila but might be Doha as well, have made owners much richer.
