100 Years of Indian Cinema

Indian Cinema has come a long way since the very first film released in the Year 1913. Indian Cinema has seen the likes of greats like Madhubala, Vijayanthimala, Waheeda Rehman, and many many more who have graced the screens and ruled our hearts.
The 50's, 60's, 70's & 80's were those golden years when melodious songs ruled the roost. Nowadays all we get to hear is just a cacophony of noise in the name of music and the lyrics leave a lot to be desired!
I remember these songs which still manage to move me and uplift my spirits. They are some of my all time favorites!
'Woh Hain Zara Kafa Kafa ' - Saira Banu in Shagird...she was soooooo pretty! And then 'Aaj Ki Raat Mere dil ki..." "Madhuban Mein Radhika Naache re"....and ofcourse who can forget the lithe Sandhya in movies like Jhanak Jhanak Payal Baaje! Her grace and beauty is unparalleled. They never needed botox or lipo to look good. They had a natural beauty about them that just mesmerized the audiences.
Another beautiful and talented artiste was Dr. Vijayantimala Bali. A trained classical dancer! She did 'Sangam' and 'Jewel Thief' .. her rendering of "Honton Pe Aisi Baat" and that woeful look when singing "Rula Ke Gaya Sapna"...one could actually feel the emotion....so lacking in songs of today like Chikni Chameli......yeugh!
She potrayed Chandramukhi in Devdas and Amrapali with elan!
Waheeda Rehman in 'Guide' was soooooo mesmerizing! Kagaz Ke Phool and Chaudvin Ka Chand.....how can one forget such melody and beauty?? She was truly Chaudvin Ka Chand......!!!!
And how can one forget Asha Parekh sizzling with Shammi Kapoor in 'Aaja Aaja Main hoon Pyar Tera' and 'Dil Deke Dekho'.....and some of her lovely songs like "Sayonara" and her potrayal in Kati Patang. 'Main Tulsi Tere Aangan Ki' was another fav of mine....
Others like our very own GUDDI, Mili, and the famous Radha in Sholay......Jaya Bachchan....Loved her in Abhimaan and Silsila. And then ofcourse sizzling Zeenat! She was the pin up girl of her time. Her 'Dum Maaro Dum' and 'Chura Liya Hai Tumne'.....wow she stole one too many hearts...:) And the unforgettable Qurbani.......!!!
Of the males, Vinod Khanna was my favorite actor. He failed to shine in the glow of Big B's aura but he was an actor to reckon with. His Amar, Akbar Antony & Muqaddar Ka Sikander and Qurbani.........but I loved him more when he assayed character roles in more recent films.
Another top star of his time was Rajesh Khanna..."Pushpa, I hate tears"......a dialogue that still rings in our ears.
And last but not the least Dream Girl Hema Malini!!!!.......She is still very much a Dream Girl. Basanti won many hearts when she danced to "Jab Tak Hai Jaan Jaane Jahan" in Sholay but again like Vinod Khanna I prefer her in the character roles that she assays like in Bhagban with the Big B and Aarakshan and Baabul to name a few.
I know this has been a very very long post but it is very difficult to contain 100 Glorious Years of cinema in a few lines. With this post I have tried to bring out some of the beautiful moments on Indian Cinema. But Indian Cinema does not stop with just Bollywood. We have stalwarts and legends in the Regional Film Industry as well.
Here's to 100 Glorious Years of Cinema and many more to come!!!!

Man they just dont make ...Man they just dont make movies like they used to in black and white...the acting then was ACTING..now all they care about is titties, legs, bar dances and six packs. Where is the story..where is the emotions, where is the climax where you go OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH i didnt see that coming...where are the movies that make you guess who the killer is right through the entire movie...and most importantly where is the DISHUM DISHUM?

Regarding ...Todays cinema.......
it reached in degrading form.
what ever film maker wants to say they shows begin with Indian people residing in US/Canada/Australia (their mindset) to Indian residents to digest or ready to copy paste in Indian culture (I am referring to Ek main aur Ek Thoo and Desi/Dirty Boys, etc)
tinkerbell10 said
Todays Cinema is trying to ...Todays Cinema is trying to cater to the young generation but unfortunately what they are showing is not the real picture and our youngsters are getting carried away with it all.
Even if they do show Indians in the US/UK does the common man who goes there live like that? NO! But our kids think that that is what life is and are so disillusioned when they actually go there........

tinki...well i dont know.. ...tinki...well i dont know.. maybe i got too old .. or i don't really have so called "modern mentality" .. coz i find these songs literally funny, disrespectful and vulgarity in the name of "ART"...
but heres the problem.. our younger generation seems to like such songs.. not only boy but girls too.. they don't realize they are being degraded with such songs.. and movie makers seem to target new generation ONLY ..or should i say "teenagers"
------------------------------------------------

tinkerbell10 said
No CL you are not OLD but ...No CL you are not OLD but just have better taste. :)
That said it is upto US to educate our youngsters and let me tell you the so called teens are not that dumb..many of them are very much aware and are more mature than we were at their age. I strongly believe that we should use the resources at our disposal like Twitter / Facebook and other Social Networking Sites and spread the message about such trashy songs. We may not be able to change anything but we can make ourselves HEARD and personally feel that it is important to be heard. Action being taken is another issue.
Teens need to read about it and hear about it and they WILL question and we can educate them. Start from your own home and neighbourhood.

Aaj ke zamaane mein honestly speaking im not exactly a FAN of anyone but i like Abhay Deol and Farhan Akhtar very much. I find them natural actors and extremely talented too. Amongst others Hrithik has potential is he gets the right role and Ranbir has talent and good looks - deadly combo - but he IS a Kapoor and the genes speak for themselves!...:) And i also believe that Imran Khan has a lot of potential too....
Amongst the women i love Vidya only cuz she is comfy with herself...she is not exactly slim or petite and not glamorous at all compared to Kat and gang but i find her more HUMAN. The rest im not at all impressed with. Just flashes in the pan.
True Beauty was with our yesteryear ladies.....Waheeda Rehman, Saira Banu, Hema Malini, Madhubala, oh i can go on and on.......:)

Real Actors: who knows how to ...Real Actors: who knows how to act rather following older generations.
Their individuality and uniqueness reflects in their performances.
Aamir Khan, Amitabh (after PAA) but time to retire, Imran Khan and then Ranvir.
I am waiting for Aish and Karishma (natural beauties) to be back on big screen after their breaks.
Shahrukh Khan needs a total change over in his image of romantic heros to a social (like Jeetendra did) or anti social (Don) or action/comedy (Dharmendra did) characters after the age of 45.

My all time favourites.....Ever green movies ...From Old movies.....
Roti, Memdidi, Mughal E Azam, Azaad, Mela, Hum Dono.........
Dilip Kumar, Dev Anand, Raj Kapoor, Jayant (Amjad khan's Father), Rajesh Khanna were great actors.
"Yeh zindagi ke Mele, duniya mein kam na hoonge afsoos hum na hoonge......" super lyrics in golden voice of RafiSahab.
From New ones.......
Iqbal, Wednesday, Udaan, Tare zameen..., 3 idiots, Rang De basanti, Once upon a time in Mumbai,
Salesman of the year Singh, Dil chahta hain, Zindagi na milengi dubara, Hera Pheri, Munnabhai series....and so on.....
Movies shall be made NOT only for entertainment But should have a purpose and carry some social messages.
Tinks.....Naushad Sahab, Madan Mohan, SD Burman, Bade Ghulam Ali Khan, Umar Khayyam were great musician till date. Their music compositions are soothing and touching our hearts.
The most generous and popular is Salman from charity pov; never heard about SrKs charity. He lost 100 Crores (RaONE) and a free slap to Farah's husband.
Khananbhai, Srk was good in Veer Zaara also :D
