Poor , brave girl. I just ...Poor , brave girl. I just wish , for her, that her sacrifice will actually make a difference and that somebody will remember her effort if and when women are actually allowed to drive in Saudi.

She is indeed to be lauded ...She is indeed to be lauded for her perseverence to a cause she feels so strongly about..
I am curious though.. the article says .. "She also recounted growing up during Saudi's transition to control by Islamic extremists"

This is indeed a high price ...This is indeed a high price. And though I pity her, just as I pity all those women in France forced to remove their niqabs and then trying to wear them illegally and getting fined and arrested, I can never support breaking of laws.
The harsh truth is laws are laws. Not always will they appeal to everyone and may also border on discrimination and oppression but one just cannot take the law into one's hands with the hope of getting better.
In fact, whilst personally I completely support women driving(as do many scholars upon the Quran and Sunnah) because I know it is NOT something against Islam, I would wish for the women in Saudi not to do what this lady did because it may very well then make their lawmakers doubly stubborn to not lift the ban. They, the government may fear that by giving into a person who broke the law in this case they may have to then give in to others in other cases as well,and we all know no person in power likes to be blackmailed,threatened and bullied, even if they maybe wrong.
Rather it would be better for the women to use their parliamentary powers,which is to be applied soon with them being given the right to vote and run for elections, to get their rights legally.
Another issue with this ban is with the women's attitude itself. Because whilst there are women wishing to see this ban lifted, there are also many who are fine with it. And I know this for a fact. Why? Well here they may defer but one reason being because of the terribly dangerous road conditions in Saudi. Another because they feel they are not really deprived having the privilege of drivers to take them where they wish. Mind you this is not just unemployed women who have this negative attitude towards driving in Saudi!
All in all before women do get the right to drive, for their own good, I pray the chaotic road conditions improve for the better.

No Legal Justification. ...It is not written in any Saudi Law that a woman must not drive a car, Pakistan observes Sharia just as well and women drive in Pakistan. Saudi problems is based on archaic culture and the false sense of security men have by making women subjective to all restrictions.

The roads would probably be ...The roads would probably be safer if women could drive in Saudi..Several times whilst living there i have seen young boys driving cars when they could barely see over the steering wheel..
