But I agree with Flor, given the fact that it's just been a few weeks since the Villagio tragedy and many of us are yet to recover from the shock and trauma of it all,and the ongoing paranoia and fear about safety, jokes about any occurring fires is bound to bring about negative reactions, and not everyone will be all matured and tolerant. The old saying comes to mind "there is a time and place for everything"

not all Western people are saying bad about Islam, only few BUT they are very noisy creating an impression that they are many and that they are GOOD. Actually, there is not much problem really if any party practice restraints.

One or two cases involving a western getting into trouble in the region or a GCC person having trouble in the WEST are just being magnified here by some as if it was the general thing!

Flor, looking at what is and has been going on here, I'd say 98 % of Westerners would have much harsher things to say if that would not get them deported. I am not speaking, in any way ,for those 98% mentioned, JMHO and what I have heard and read lately in other places than QL.

There was no malicious intent by MIMH. In fact there was not even a link to the Villagio fire, as this was about something else......that link was dremprt up/imagined by someone else. No one can be held responsible for the imaginings of every Tom, Dick or Harry.

Where the line is crossed is when someone incites or blatently threatens physical harm on someone.That's a tangable threat and not mixed up with the vaguries of offence and taste.

If you want an example of what I mean look no further than the first guy. You think it's offensive because of the fire but he is upset at the burn all abayas, he couldn't care less about the people that died in the fire but god forbid women are not correctly dressed.

i do love black humor. a joke can be dark but still within the bounds common decency. but i don't think moza's is. hers is simply distateful. cynicism and sarcasm is different from being tactless and offensive. i don't believe there's malicious intent though. just mindless rambling.
