It is ...I loved my vacation in Kerala. My maternal grandpa was a Keralite, and visiting his hometown was just amazing a holiday for us. However it was a long time back and I was way too carefree back then to really concentrate on names of places and sites. All I know is we had lots of fun!

advise ...Make sure you know someone and let them guide you. Lots of places to visit - but u need a good guide. Its the monsoon season now. So, torrential rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is the order of the day. My wife loves the rain so she really enjoys going at this time of the year. Summers are quiet warm. As high as 40 degrees. Winters are milder at about 20 degrees (people, feel free to correct me as it has been a while since I have been to India).
A week should suffice for your first visit.
Only drink mineral water from bottles that are sealed. Even better, take your own water bottles and fill them up with boiled water. Be careful about where you eat from(Not everyone can handle the food). I would recommed eating from reputed hotels. Though, honestly speaking, the best tasting food is usually in the small roadside places.
Most comfortable way to see Kerala would be to hire a good taxi guide. (Get one of your friends to recommend someone). There is plenty of public transport but the weather, the crowds and the dust makes it uncomfortable.
An associate of mine is actually setting up a tourism business in Kerala. It is basically a resort being built on the banks of the Periyar river. The plan is to provide a central hub for people to spend the night with day trips to various locations around the state. However, it is still in the initial phases. Its due for completion by the middle of next year.

Not a good idea ...Certainly not as most of the keralites come to spend their vaccations in the gulf instead. Just happens to be one hell of a long vaccation for this guys out here and then they bring along as many relatives as they can for a memorable holiday experience that goes on and on
