About QAWS(qatar animal welfare society)

Dear QAWS,
I am one of many people that would love to adopt a puppy and I've been searching for a puppy more than a year thats before my friend told me about qaws and u can easily adopt a puppy or a dog there,i liked there facebook page and start receiving photos for pets for adaptation i almost comment and requested to adopt almost every puppy appear on new feed with not a single reply from qaws, that was strange for me and even stranger that they keep displaying the same puppies for adoptation, what that means u dont like like me to adopt!!! After big passion i called there and i drove right to there after they requested on the phone that i should come for an interview,i arrived with a smile on my face for really having a hope to get a puppy or a dog, when the supervisor came i actually forgot her name i wish i remember..so i told her im here for an interview to adopt a puppy or a dog..she look at me in a rude wa and her exact answer was:" i will never give you any of my dogs.." for that i was totally shocked i wasnt expecting that, and she turn her back on me and walk away,i politly went to muly car and drove back home with totall busy mind that wat i do wrong to be just judged on the way i look ??? She didnt even ask me Are you a breeder?
-Are you familiar to siberian husky puppies?
-Do you have kids?
-Do you have a Vet Doctor?
-How Old are You?
-What is your occupation?
-Give us a Brief Description about your Environment?
-Were exactly are you located? !!!!! Nothing of that just a rude treatment... That was my experience with QAWS and thanks for them i will never go back there again i even posted my story on there fb page and they simply remove without apologizing or contact me to know wat happen or who act rude with me!!! For me i would prefer to buy a puppy than to go back there again.I'm sorry for all the pets there and for the people who really want a good home for their pets dont go to QAWS just find a loving kind person and he will treat your pet like his own child, with all my respect,QAWS staff and superiors and managers how they respect animals if they dont know how to respect people...this is The total true story of me and qaws and im responsible for each single word.

Make people scared to adopt ...Make people scared to adopt animals is not a solution!!
Go there again or contact QVC
This rude way of treating people is not acceptable specially if they want to help
If you really care for these animals, just fight for it

I think the person you met ...I think the person you met was not the 'supervisor'.
Mr. Jumprightinandfixit and Mr.Genuineknowledgeseeker!

I also tried going to QAWS ...I also tried going to QAWS for a puppy but never received this kind of treatment, they just never had the small breed I wanted. I finally found a miniature dog but now have to give him up because of my travel schedule. Check my posting.

On the other hand ...I have a long and nice experience with QAWS , but with the dogs.
Never meet the supervisor.

They are non profit organization, so i don't think they have a reason to treat you like this without any reasons..They wish to find good nice people to adopt
Mike Shamrock said
sambsk, which authorities? ...sambsk, which authorities? QAWS is a non-profit organization run by a group of VOLUNTEERS. The subsidy that they receive is minimal if not ZERO compared to the loads of work that they have.

The people who run QAWS are ...The people who run QAWS are all volunteers and they spend almost all their free time looking after those pets whom irresponsible adults have just thrown on the street or left to die!
I am sorry you had such an experience but to say that u feel sorry for the animals and they dont know to treat others....BS....
Its always better to find out from others AT QAWS and get a reply from them to the reason and sort it out than come here and post such a thread.
Granted you had a bad experirnce but with ONE person. And to paint ALL of them there with the same brush....wrong
Have u tried walking all those dogs in this summer heat??? Try it! Volunteer there and then know first hand what it is to look after all those abandoned animals and that too without any payment!
You sd u wud rather BUY a pet. Have u seen how these animals are treated in the Pet Souq??? Inhuman! And they are owners who do it for a FAT FEE!!!

tinker et al, ...I tried not to comment because I heard it myself before from two outstanding Qlers before about the attitude problems at QAWS farm. And I thought it was two isolated cases. And it really freaked me out that time that I never enteratined myself of volunteering even to walk the dogs (because one of the two Qlers mentioned the animosity).
I just hope this post is also an isolated one because I am beginning to imagine that QAWS are for certain nationality only.
The involved staff said "my dogs" which may connotes she is not an ordinary volunteer there.
I HOPE I AM WRONG.

You are Flor. If it was only ...You are Flor. If it was only for a certain nationality i wudnt be welcome there and i am more than welcome. Infact my son just loves it there...
They have always been friendly and nice. Just walk in the hat of summer walking the dogs on the farm. Just take ONE DOG and take ONE ROUND the farm. Many cant do that regularly. And those volunterrs spend ALL their free time there. ALL. And nothing in return by way of salary etc. Not everyone has that in them to given away selflessly to animals. And I respect them for that.
Its been atleast 2 months since i went myself. And i made it a point to go every week. I had some personal issues. But will be resuming next month. I know how difficult it is! And all I do is walk the dogs. The others clean out the kennels, vaccinate the cats, talk to prospective volunteers, show people around the farm, and loads of other things. If one is going to take the prejusice of QL with them to QAWS then best - dont go.

flor - nothing surprises me ...flor - nothing surprises me anymore. For one i dont understand why people need to hold a personal grudge. Second just cuz views on some subjects differ does not make them bad people. Just different.
And why does one ned to delve so deep when all we do is interact over a forum and meet maybe once a yr or so! Plus as a volunteer one goes there for the animals not for the people.

QAWS are very particular ...QAWS are very particular about who they give dogs too. ESPECIALLY pure breds. If you were specifically looking for a husky puppy than you probably came across as someone who plans to breed or fight them. Which is why they told you to go away.

MM., ...Good one. "..probably came across.."
This is not an excuse. It all depends on personal experiences. This person feels that he was dealt with rudely. Tinker has had good dealings. There could be a number of reasons.
Let us wait for someone from Qaws to respond.

I contacted yesterday QAWS ...I contacted yesterday QAWS regarding this issue and there respond was as follows:
Qatar Animal Welfare Society (QAWS)
We reserve the right to refuse anyone one of our pets based on our judgement of their interview and their behaviour around our animals. I'm sure there was a reason as to why your friend wasn't able to adopt one of our animals.
Qatar Animal Welfare Society (QAWS)
Please remember that every story has 2 sides and he has failed to mention a lot of what actually happened!
And i am sure QAWS members wont lie, because again they are non profit organization! And they help all the animals..They even have animals with a really really sad stories!! That living there so Happy with lots of friends.
My Respect to QAWS and all the Member and volunteers

If someone is interested in ...If someone is interested in adopting QAWS does allow the potential owner to take the pet home for a trial run. And why wud they even refuse outright without even asking some basic questions? It defeats the very purpose! They want the pets to have a loving home. They want them rehomed but with people who will look after them and not bring them back or abandon them again!
I have seen volunteers talk to many people who come asking about adopting a pet and many of them do take the dogs out for a walk and try to get to know the dog too. And Ive seen varied nationalities come. And no i dont think they wud just say NO by just LOOKING at a person.

If he really want a dog and ...If he really want a dog and want to save one, he suppose to go yo any pet shop here in Doha and buy one..Because in QAWS the animals treated so good and they have already a big family who take care of them...But in shops they are treated in a very inhuman way ..
Before i knew QAWS is existed i did the same..Yes its expensive but i paid the money while i am happy because i saved a puppy from this bad people..and now she is 4 years old healthy dog and we love her like our kid
Miss Mimi said
My guess is he didn't comment ...My guess is he didn't comment on EVERY dog or puppy they put up, he posted on either pure breds or dogs that look like fighting dogs. Alarm bells there.

About the Nationality thing at QAWS, i am sure, there is NO Discrimination, & every one are Welcome at the Farm.

Tatiana - buying the animals ...Tatiana - buying the animals gives these Human animals more money to buy more animals and treat them in the same way. By buying animals u r helping them abuse more animals. U r not solving the issue. U r contributing to it.
Stop buying animals from the Pet Souk. Boycott them completely. Spred the word about their inhuman treatment.

There is animals who are sick and dying in this cages
When i bought my dog i didnt know about QAWS, and yet i am so glad that i saved her
seeing this animals just break my heart
tinkerbell10 said
The only way to bring them ...The only way to bring them down is to keep up the campaign against them. Granted one feels for those animals as they are not given proper food or water and in these summer months many are just sleeping due to the unbearable heat and lack of water.
PLUS many are diseased. Not buying may not be a solution but buying is contributing to it. Its better not to buy and not fund them to buy more animals to abuse.

I know it is. It angers me ...I know it is. It angers me each time i see it. I took my son to the Pet Souq and showed him what was being done. He has now begum telling his friends in school about it. We just need to spread the word about it. Use all your resources. Take it to twitter and FB,
I saw an article about it in Time out Mag. Make yourselves heard. Shut them down by any means. Why u can even go there with a bunch of friends and reprimand them for the way they treat the animals! I yelled at one of the guys there. He was trying to make me buy when he saw my son. My son very clearly told him he was a bad man for abusing the dogs. I let him rant a bit and gave him a peice of my mind too. And walked away. All those around me heard.
Spread awareness. Only way.

tinker, the intent is good, ...but the way is NOT. We all don't like what's going on pet souq but doing such action there are inviting trouble for you and your son. You may get sympathy or approval to many but you are creating enemy to some. And you don't know who this "some" are.
Unless you want us to go there and show placards condemning the pet souq, I would say, try other means.
BTW, what is the timing of afternoon volunteering work at QAWS this summer?

Tinker and Mike ...What you both did was perfectly right! And yes we should all do just that...condemn the evil and speak out against the abuse of poor innocents, be it in private(as in one on one with the shopkeepers) or in public via the media, facebook etc. This atrocious place should be brought to it's knees, and soon before dozens more perish. And as always when we do what's right, we may face some opposition but why should we be afraid? It's the ones who are in wrong who should be afraid..Keep it up guys!
