300 New Taxis in Qatar on 1 July

The Gulf Times is reporting that Al Million Taxis will put a fleet of 300 new taxis on the road this Sunday (1 July) and intends to add 200 cars within the next few months.
The taxis will be the same turquoise as the current Karwa fleet except they will have a maroon roof.
More taxis on the road will definitely be welcome. You'll be able to call Al Million on 8005500 (a toll free number) - complete with a 1990s robo-voice!
Everyone knows that Doha lacks taxis so 200 more will sure go a long way.

observation.. ...I am in a car at a traffic light in Abu Dhabi, early in the morning about 7 am..
I decide to count the number of taxi's i see crossing the road in front of me only in one direction..
in the one minute or less of the traffic signal.
I counted 42 taxi's...
Doha has a long way to come in public taxi's..

Well more Taxis would be a ...Well more Taxis would be a definitive boon to this country's Road & Transport Infrastructure. No doubt !!!
Few Queries
-Are the Roads sufficient to accommodate these cars
-Will the Taxi Fares be affordable for the Commoners (who will be the main milk cows or benefactors of these initiatives)
-Will they be providing Call Taxi Services or would it be similar to standing in the Sun for hours before we could get a Taxi when required.
To develop a system and implement it for the Right People, with the Right Resources and with the Right Intention is what is required in these parts.... Not the race against whose got the longest... oh sorry!! the tallest on the Globe.
Hope the people are able to see the greater picture, the picture of success, the picture of future generations living in prosperity in all walks of life like Spiritually, Economically, Educational, Financially and with Social Maturity and broad thinking.
Few Examples - Singapore & Dubai (Read their history)

More taxis means less ...More taxis means less vehicles on the road. If you can step out, and flag a taxi down as conveniently as in Dubai (regardless of the time of day), there will be no real need to own a car for most residents.

yeah, more taxis and private ...yeah, more taxis and private cars, for that matter, would only congest the roads. more buses, bus routes and more frequent trips would be better. i hope the railway system would come sooner too. mass public transportation is the way to go.

i hate KARWA ...and the reason is : they will ask you with meter or w/o meter. and if you said with meter they wont assist you.
2. from Land Mark to Al Saad they are charging you QR 25 with out meter on, many times i fight with them coz when i sit they dont even tell you that our meter is not on,so when i reach my home they are asking 30 + where i should pay only 18 to 20, Gurrrrrrrrrrrr
So if u shout on them and get down from the car they will run behind you, many people has been facing the same and its really useless to complain on the Customer Service.
really H A T E the way they are ...

How it works elsewhere .... ...In Dubai & Abu Dhabi if the meter is not switched on the ride is free. Advertised on the dashboard. You can always get a printed receipt for the fare. If you book a taxi by phone, you will get an SMS giving the number of the allocated cab. The computerised booking system remembers your name, mobile number and the place you usually ask to be picked up from. The operators will address you by name. The taxis generally arrive promptly. The cabs have a GPS system to direct drivers who don't know the way. This also tracks their speed so they don't break the limits.
Each cab has an identifying number on the back so it's easy to report bad driving.
It can be done. Why can't Qatar get up-to-the-mark with a decent taxi service? Why do we have to lag behind in this and in so many other ways?

Advices for ladies: ...1. Only get into a taxi that stops after you've flagged it down. Don't get into one if the driver stopped just on seeing you walk down the pavement - even if you haven't shown any sign of needing a cab - and is looking eagerly thru the rear view mirror, waiting for you to approach.
2. Don't get into the front passenger's seat alongside the driver (that's common sense, of course). And certainly DON'T get into a taxi if the driver is asking you to sit next to him. Just wait for the next taxi that comes around, even if you're in the biggest hurry.
3. If the driver starts asking about where you work, how long you've been in the country and stuff, you can put up with it. If he asks for your phone number, and the questions start getting personal, ask him to halt at the nearest stop, and get off.
4. Try not to take a taxi after 6 in the evening if you're alone. After dark, ask a family member or friend to pick you up if you're stranded somewhere.
5. They charge you more if you're taking a cab from outside a hotel or shopping mall. Look around for the nearest place where you can hail a cab without looking like you've just exited these places.
6. Looking more businesslike/corporate employee always helps. Formal clothes, and a couple of files, papers or books in hand, and you're automatically accorded some respect.
7. Always be polite to cabbies, not friendly. There's a difference.

Good to hear! it's such a ...Good to hear! it's such a hassle finding transportation these days. And lately Karwa drivers are not very good with passengers as far as my experience with them is concerned! 80 percent don't use the meter especially in the evening and they choose their passengers according to the distance! if it's too near they wont let you in! and omg! hope they improve the hygiene! It's not very pleasant sitting inside with a suffocating odor if it was'nt too hot outside I would have walked home instead!

They have a better system in ...They have a better system in place. Once you call , your location and requirement will be sent to 5 Taxis in the proximity . The nearest one takes the call and you will get a text on your cell with the name and number of the driver who is gona pick you. Sounds cool.
But Doha needs atleast 5000 of them not 500.

.....Qatar i suppose is one of the richest country today in the world.
Just by making tall towers .......A BIG NO
Next to the tall towers the roads are still of the same width...and not widened
Infrastructure of roads in at crawling speed
More taxis more traffic jams
No police men around to smooth up the traffic
And what ever is done it is done only in Doha....does anybody outside Qatar have heard of cities like Wakra and Alkhor...
horrible planning as usual....
Only the good income people are taken for statistics.
I have seen areas where the bachelors live...its little road you find in the potholes...
There are more of negatives things that i can put it out here than the positive....even then i always crib with my friends about Qatar being better who come from other GCC countries.
