God particle found

Our knowledge grows ever deeper as we swat away the old superstitutions. What was once a theory is now fact, (subject to further retesting of the experiments) and Mankinds knowledge of the universe expands.
Death to ignorance and myths!

The Higg's boson was the ...The Higgs boson was the missing link in understanding the inter-relation of all four types of forces in nature..the strong, weak, electromagnetic and the gravitational forces.
It has a much higher mass than other sub-atomic particles so its considered to give mass to the quarks.
Satyen Bose, an Indian scientist worked with Einstein to formulate some equations on quarks regarding their behaviour and thus the name Boson is given on him. Also, Peter Higgs formed a theory on such a particle 40 years back but couldn't see it. He is still alive and hopefully is the happiest man on earth today!

Can our on board physicist elaborate on the significance of this discovery for everyone?

Moza, you are creating a new ...Moza, you are creating a new myth by naming it "God's Particle". It's far from being established, by the way. A statistical spike at a certain energy level indicates that there is a particle which may have the properties postulated by Higgs, but it might as well be only one of many Higgs particles at similar energy levels, and that would open the door to a "new" physics and the Standard Model would have to be adjusted. Yes, there is joy about getting the numbers, but there are as many new questions as there were collisions at the LHC to achieve those data.

Exactly because of that, ...Exactly because of that, Zanzibar. There is no reason to assume that we are the only ones. If elsewhere in the vast universe conditions (accidentally) allow a form of life to emanate, it will. It doesn't have to be like our life form, though. The universe is free to let everything happen because there are always two possibilities: it either happens, or it doesn't.

I doubt it'll ever change the concept of God! Our great (?) godmen will eveolve their theory accordingly to feed the stupids.

It doesn't matter who set the ...It doesn't matter who set the rules. The rules are nothing special, they are only ONE possibility of many. The fact that there are laws in physics only means that they happened to be there. Any other laws had the same chance. And maybe there are other universes with other laws. But since our laws don't apply there, it isn't interesting for us, it's actually inaccessible for us (and vice versa). The laws did not form the universe! The laws and the universe formed simultaneously just as they did without any preference for this or that law. We tend to make a mistake to think that conditions have to be set up BEFORE things can evolve. It's not like this. Things evolve WITH the conditions which evolve at the SAME time.

It is so easy to use doctrines made by people who can't even give us a clear explanation or an evidence. No wonder why many of us are easily fooled.

happy, the Standard Model ...happy, the Standard Model tells you how the universe will end and what you have to do to survive in this place. Did you know that the Andromeda Galaxy is approaching the Milky Way Galaxy with a velocity of about 1700 km/second? No? Well, tell your offspring to be prepared. So, you don't know when it will happen? Simple, take the current distance which is approximately 2 million light-years and divide it by the velocity. And then you can say exactly when it will happen (+/- a few million years.)

Old laurels don’t work always. They may be knowing few things, in past, but unless one comes out in search of new knowledge, one can’t sustain in modern days. (now plz don’t bring faith into it)
Though its matter of satisfaction as Higgs Boson has its well-deserved Indian connection (Dr Satyendra Bose), even lots of Indian scientists are working on this project including other technical/logistical supports.

Question to LP, In one of the ...Question to LP, In one of the discussions a scientist from Germany commented that such high energy levels, in the order of 8 GV, used to produce these sub-atomic particles run a risk of producing black holes.
He also said, if a black hole is created under the earth, this could devour the earth in some years.
I saw this scientist was quite old and possibly might have been senile but is there any truth in what he says?
LincolnPirate said
First of all, the energy ...First of all, the energy level for the Higgs particle is around 126 GeV! Secondly, a black hole is a black hole because it combines so much mass in such a small place that the escape velocity is beyond the speed of light. Creating a black hole requires a huge amount of mass to be compressed to a state where atomic structures don't exist anymore. I don't see how this can happen by colliding 2 or 3 billion protons with each other.
