Courts hear 86,980 cases

Qatar’s courts heard 86,980 cases - civil, criminal and labour - and passed 68,523 verdicts in the last year, according to the annual report released by the Supreme Council for Justice (SCJ) and published in Arabic dailies yesterday.
The number of civil suits taken up by the courts was 24,119 and final verdicts were passed in 15,839 cases. Criminal suits were 4,734 and verdicts were passed in 2,749 cases. The Lower Court heard 8,374 cases and passed verdicts in 6,556 cases. The court for dud cheques heard 23,422 cases and passed verdicts in 21,665 cases. The Traffic Court dealt with 3,096 cases and passed verdicts in 2,711 cases.
The Court on Environmental Issues heard 1,000 cases and disposed of 903. The Court for Criminal Investigation and Follow-up which deals with violations of immigration and visa regulations by expatriates heard 7,514 cases and disposed of 7,456. The number of family related cases including inheritance and minors’ issues was 5,251 of which 3,775 were settled.

The Court for Criminal Investigation and Follow-up which deals with violations of immigration and visa regulations by expatriates heard 7,514 (144 per week) cases and disposed of 7,456 (143 per week). Ahhh... so "Disposed Of" most certainly does not mean thrown out ;)
