Fourth QL Photo Shoot:
Hey guys. LotusGem had a great idea of doing the shoot the evening of Sep 3rd for Independence Day, but since the day is no longer recognized I've been trying to find a suitable alternative. Considering the heat I know a lot of folks want something inside, but I can't think of anything indoors and taking into account an area not very populated b/c I know how sensitive of an issue it is to some people getting their photo taken by a stranger. With that said, I am happy to open up this forum to suggestions. I will tentatively schedule the next photoshoot assuming we can come up with a suitable place by then. The same rules that for Photo Shoot 3 shall apply, but for the "tag" mentioned below in the submittal rules.

Photos taken on the day of the shoot, at the location of the shoot. If you want to compete, please come, take a photo and submit.
Deadline
Submit your photos before 11:59:59pm on Sept 15.
How and where to submit
1. You need an account on flickr.com, which is free.
2. You need to request to join the Qatar Living group on flickr.
3. Upload your photos to flickr and add the to Qatar Living group.
3. Tag your photos with "photoshoot4" to submit in the competition.
4. Optionally tag them with "Qatar" if you want them to show on Qatar Living.
5. You can submit up to 4 photos for the competition.

Timing, ...As someone who participated in the first two shoots I have to add my two cents here.
It was my understanding that the idea of creating this group was to encourage people to get together and take pictures.
By scheduling for a Thursday night or any weekday night we are not opening up for maximum exposure to the maximum amount of people. Shoot two held on a Saturday was a HUGE success with many people out there.
Weekdays are when most of us are working. Yes I know some have to work Saturdays, but it still falls to reason that the majority of us are off. As this shoot is being scheduled for a week day I can tell you already that I won't be able to be involved. I'm sure there are others as well.
As far as only allowing photos from the DAY of the shoot, again I think that is too harsh. My opinion is that RECENT photos, preferably taken AFTER the shoot is announced should be allowed.
I invite others to share their opinions.

Cast Your Vote ...Stash. Thanks for the opinion which is much appreciated. I'm definitely all about getting more people to the shoot. I figured 8:00 pm would be late enough, especially during Ramadan, to where people will not be at work. Playing devils advocate to your second comment, I think by making the photoshoot limited to the day of the shoot will encourage more people to try and make it that day, therefore, bringing more of us together which is what you are advocating. There's definitely an argument for whichever way you want to slice this apple, but I am the man of the people, so to those of you who want it one way or another speak up or forever hold your peace. The tally currently stands as such:
1) Evening Weekend Shoot (must be in the evening b/c of Ramadan): 1 vote.
2) Accept photos taken w/in X days of the shoot: 1 vote.

Day of the shoot ...I vote for day of the shoot because more people will make an effort to show up.
Lets try and make it a little before Ramadan.

Ramadan ...Looks like Ramadan is the 13th of Sept (Thursday) and by doing the shoot prior to that may not give people enough time + it will be during the work week. The alternative is to wait until after Ramadan.

Whats the theme? ...Hey guys, Im new here and being a serious shutter bug back home i certainly want to join you in your shoot. By the way, whats the theme of this upcoming shoot? Maybe it may a little bit settle the ongoing conflict if we know what to shoot

Theme ...The forum is up to theme suggestions as well. As I mentioned, I think doing the event outside is out of the question in this humidity. If anybody can think of an indoor location with different subject matter that can be shot it would be helpful. Please note that the shoot is temporarily postponed until we determine an indoor location or the weather cools off a bit. Thanks.
PS. Angelwings. I'm not sure where you can find the original thread for the shoots, however, the concept simply is that the QL photoshoot group periodically goes out for a shoot, all the participants upload their photos, and then a winner is determined by the admin host. I believe the winner gets a free Flickr pro account and gets to host the following event.

can I still join??? ...guys..wasn't able to join the previous shoots.. me and my boss planned to attend the photo shoot in corniche but we were swamped with printing projects..hopefully ramadan will give us more free time in the office..can I still join??

The Villagio ...Khalifa,
I was planning on the Villagio in the previous photoshoot, but could not get it because of certain incidents that happened during the past few months.
In any case, I think its a great place, but you need to go there and meet with the managment to get permission. I think there is a Ms. Rima there that can help.
I also think that the mesuem may be a good place to be if they would allow us to take photos there.

How about.... ...How about we make the holy month of Ramadan as the theme itself? it can be the people, place or event that shows how Ramadan is being celebrated or contemplated. We can make the whole month as the shooting period, gathering photos then can be judged on the Eid(After Ramadan). On the Judgement day, we can categorize it to three. That can be people, place or event.
Just my opinion guys

I think normanila has a good ...I think normanila has a good idea. The only drawback is that going the direction of everybody independently taking photos does not assist in grouping the QL members together, which is one of the purposes of the shoot. I'm open to what the majority thinks though. I'm not sure if a lot of people are aware of the post as it hasn't been featured, but I would like to get more feedback from people, otherwise, I think Normanila's idea should be implemented.

I think group shoot is great ...I also think...it's better to take pictures as a group so we could meet and exchange ideas:)

I agree that a group shoot ...I agree that a group shoot is much better. I think the best thing to do at this point is wait until things cool off a bit and do an outside shoot. With that said, expect an October shoot (Likely after Eid). Ideas for an outside shoot are welcome. For those who wish to take Ramadan theme oriented pictures feel free to do so and post them to the QL group on flickr.
