Is this a good package?

socialoutcast's picture

Hi Everyone,

I'm new to this forum and hope someone can offer advice please. My husband was offered the following package.
Would you be so kind as to tell me if this is a decent offer for a family of four. We have a 2yr old and a 7yr old.
Basic salary: QR 24,000pm
+Accommodation allowance: 10,000pm incl utility bills
+Car allowance: 2,500pm
+Flight Allowance: 1,600pm
+Medical covered by the company.
We have one credit card and two cars that we still need to pay for back home
but no mortgage or loans. We can prob pay off the credit card before we go.
Can we live comfortabley on this salary? I would appreciate your feedback!

Cheers!

Package is ok, but it's not gonna cover the losses for your children having to leave their friends and all of you leaving your family.
Take a deeper look into what Doha can offer for your family while you're at work.

It's not like nothing happens, but in the extremely hot summertime it's very limited.

No mention of school fees for your 2 kids. Potentially, you could spend all 24k per month on fees for two kids.

Average 10k per child/month

Hi! Thanx for all the feedback. We lived in the UK and we were meant to move to Abu Dhabi 4yrs ago but due to the economic downturn the position became unavailable and my hubby was offered a job in South Africa. So the Middle East was always in the cards.
The job is close to West Bay which I understand is an expensive area. Are there any nice areas close to west bay that are reasonabley priced that are close to schools that you can recommend please?
We've look at different areas but we don't know if it's good or not. :-)
Thanx again for the feedback.

Hi There, we havent got there yet (although my husband is there now setting up), my husband is getting 47k a month and thats just enough i reckon, we are going to be paying rent of 18k and thats at Y Village which is abit further out but we have two small children and an infant which is due in sept. The house is a four bedroom and that was one of the cheaper nicer places we could find. Depending on power etc, we have budgeted 1500 or so for bills per month (power etc) and then car rental for one car and we are buying one - have budgeted about 5k for this. Its pretty expensive over there, depending on what other things the company is throwing it it might be worth asking for more money :) goodluck

Oh and we are budgeting 3000 per month each child for school, that is at the cheaper british schools to as they are really expensive, around 24-36k a year i have seen

I have just arrived in Doha as well and would agree with franwilkin that it is really expensive here. The top two items that are going to eat a chunk out of your salary are schooling expenses and your living expenses (supermarket, dining out etc). So i would try to bargain with the company to cover school expenses.
goodluck

Thanx for your comments. My husband will go over first and we will follow; probably after my 7yr old finishes this school year. So he'll have saved a bit with us not being their. I have checked some sites for cost of groceries, utility bills, etc and it is expensive. My husband has asked for the accommodation allowance to be increased in that way we can have all utilities covered. Thanx so much for your advice, I appreciate every single comment.

/-a-t-/franwilkin i was looking at around the same amount for school fees. I suppose school places are at a premium with the amount of expatriates going over. And they seem to have all sorts of extra fees. All the best with your move.

Hello i think pemancar and then maxi dress is the good kaftan. So dont pemancar tv and then baju muslim is good site too. When we close pemancar fm and busana muslim, we can show pemancar radio and then baju muslimah. So dont miss baju anak and fm transmitter for your kaftan live and then citra indah. Thanks.
