The XF (Xtremely Futile) ...The XF (Xtremely Futile) model is very expensive andnot really a Jaguar at heart. To me, it doesn't evoke any emotions or history of Jaguars gone by :(

britexpat hit it right on the nail ...Jaguar as a marque has been going downhill for a numnber of years. I have had a lot of Jaguar cars over the years and to me the rot started with the X type. I was working in the UK in 2001 and I bought one for my wife. It was absolute cr*p. The boot would not lock and when I took it to a Jaguar dealer they told me that this happened all the time as the lock mechanism was from a Ford Fiesta. The X type is just a glorified Mondeo. Note that the project I was managing was a new plant for Jaguar/Aston.
I have test driven the XF and it is a nice car. But I do not want a nice car I want a real Jag. I currently run a 2006 XKR in Australia and it still feels like a Jag not a BMW wannabe. If you look at the lines of the XF you can see its designers (I know some of them from their Whitley, Coventry plant) have used Ford details in many areas.
Jaguar without Tada would be bankrupt, Ford whilst they owned them did not invest in the plants in the Midlands in fact they started t wind them down. And they dumbed down the design hoping to appeal to the mass market. Whilst other luxury cars are doing very well Jaguar unfortunately will fail, only because they have not kept true to William Lyons dream.
Aston are no better but that is another story. When I get back to Oz it is going to be Italian.
