unbelievable But True

Well, I have come across so many discussions about Salaries and the most common question : Is is enough to live ? Well I would just expose my case as an exeptional case. After all it all depends on how you will live , and if you are alone or married. Well, I personally get 1460 Qs as a basic salary with no possibility to transfer sponsorship. I do get extra bonus> eventually my salary can gets up to 2500 Qs not more. However,I have an accomodation , a more or less big appartment : 2 bedrooms , a hall, one bathroom and one kitchen, and the company gave me a car. I am actually living decently, but saving is not that great. Anyway, I do make some modest saving like all other people, but I just stopped buying anything but food. I do sometimes get some non-expensive items : Clothes , books, Glasses... but I just cannot exceed a budget of 300 Qs . I just wonder sometimes how I can live on such a low salary, but I guess accomodation ( Including free electrecity and water) and Transportation constitute a heavy burden taken out of my shoulder . see how things are relative . Amazing , isn't it ?

Frog ...I'm well educated graduated of computer science, Microsoft certified as application developer .. and my total salary is 3400 Q.R. working in administrative job in a well known BIG country (the biggest cargo company)
Q.R. 1904 Basic Salary
Q.R. 1200 Accomdation
Q.R. 300 Transportation
Still can live well .. yeah there is no saving but i'm living ..
it doesn't matter how much u earn .. the most important is to adapt ur self to the situation .. it's not a shame to buy cheaper clothes, book or stuff .. it's all about satisfaction.
The funny thing is i'm making a lot of money more than my salary from the Guitar lessons... I guess i even don't need that job in the company i just need their sponsorship ;)

Ram , I am making some saving ...Belive it or not Man, I am making some saving. And I am sending almost all my salary to my family there , just because I cannot save money here if I have it in my pocket. LOL Well as you may notice , I am feeling ok and I am taking the whole of it from a funny side. I am a very simple person, I just need a place to live, a means of transport and one good meal a day. I do eat as I like, but what I didn't say is that I am working in a Food distribution Company. Guess where I do my shopping ?

LOL well..... that will cost you 50 Qs ...Well as you are a musician, I will give you advice for free. :D Well the thing is that I just refuse to buy anything apart from the very very necessary. I am sorry to say that, but I am here to save money because I have some important objectives for a near future. I need to save and I force myself to do it. I never go out to coffees or cinemas . And I just avoid the temptation of shopping. Life is hard but it's ok once you have a goal to reach.

yes, you can live ..."very simple" life, and "just refuse to buy anything apart from the very very necessary"... but the question is FOR HOW LONG? For how long you can apart yourself from whole world? Don't you go to the cinema? Don't you invite your friends for the dinner sometimes (and pay for them!)? Don't your friends have birthday parties, and you have to buy a gift for them? Don't you need to pay for some repairs, for some other services once in a while? Don't you want to travel somewhere at least once a year beside your vacation time, just to escape from Doha for two-three days?..
Yes, you can live even having only QR 1000 a month (just grocery and that's it).. but how many months you will be able to handle this kind of life? Or let me ask you is that a life at all?
In your case it's at least understandable: you have your goal and you saving money for some particular reason. And I hope it won't last a long time. Otherwise.. I am confused, how it is possible to manage this kind of "life" whatsoever.
Ram said
Qatarisun ...Not every one can afford a life like u described .. although we wanted to live it like that but what to do . it's our fate .. can u change it .. if u can't then change ur attitude .. adapt to it .. for how long ?? till u have a better life .. else u don't have any choices .. have u choose to be rich .. if so plz inform me cuz i wanna make the same choice .. if not .. then u got the answer .. we didn't choose to earn this amount of money .. but we can still choose how to live our life with this amount of money ..
My Real friend will not qualify me for what i have in my wallet but for what i have in my mind .. so if there is a birthday and i get a simple not costly gift he will understand that it's my life and still i can get him a gift .. there is a phrase for those who r donating money says "a 1 Riyal from a man who is having only 10 riyal is much bigger than 1000 riyal from a man who is having million riyal"
Hope u get my point ..

Yes I do ...You know what? I do lots of the things you listed, I do pay for my friends when we're out. I do never calculate what I do have in pocket, but there's something I usually do. As soon as I get my salary, I head directly to Western Union and Send most of it to My country so that I can keep those bank notes out of reach.... lol. Yes, I do. Well I know I miss lots of things that I used more or less to do when I was away from Doha, but I just thing it's worth the sacrifice. I don't really feel I am forcing myself into saving, I just enjoy doing it cause it just gives a sense to my stay here in Qatar. Don't think a minute that I am a mean person, because I am not. I do so many things for God's sake, I do give part of my money to those Who needs help, and I send some to mumbers of my family. They do not really neeed my help, but they just feel satisfied with what their son has become, and they appreciate what such gifts represent emotionally. I hope I can keep on doing that, and I hope I can realise my dreams . The Price is more or less high but as I said It's worth it.

I gave it a try before ...Well happy happy I really tried to look for such opportunities to increase my income. Actually....well I can tell you even if this is a public forum, that I was offered many jobs here among which the position of translator ( English/ Arabic/ French) with the Emirit Guard here in Doha. One of the most prestegious department of the Qatari Military. However, when it comes to '' sponsorship transfer'' or what is also called release everything becomes so difficult. anyway, I tried to do freelance translation, but nothing really interesting came out. I put ads on several magazines and newspapers, just to receive invitation for dates rather than appointements for interviews...lol. I do different types of translation ( scientific, legal, administrative...etc) I....well I think it's enough talking about me :D sorry people I tried to sell my C.V :D Anyway thanks for you all you really made me feel better...

Frog..I was not trying to make you feel better ...I do not feel sympathy or pity towards you. I am PROUD of you. What you have is a gift and treasure. It is a blessing.
But you also need to work harder to do freelancing. You can make some real good money per page or by word count.
I have an idea, do a search on QL on "translator". You will find a couple here. I got an offer on QL to do freelance translation. But I have no time for that.
Also, HSBC needed translators, with good salary. Their interview and test are easy. You just need to refresh your Contract related terminology to pass it easily.
Try it, you've got nothing to lose..:)

Frog, Sorry, HSBC Bank Located on Cornich ...Frog, because of the sponsorship issues, the best thing ever is freelancing, while you're sitting home relaxed, or after you regular working hours, you can do free translations. You will be your own boss.
To search on Ql for " translator", go to your profile, change "translation" to "translator" and do not link all your Interests together, write them separately under each other, then after you "Save" go back to your Profile again and click on "translator". The search results will give you a long list of users who are translators.
If you need any more assistance, let me know please.

Chapeau guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 ...Salam, Hi, Salut, Hola, Ciao
For the first time on QL I read about somebody earning less than 21000 RQ
I'm so thankful to see that people with modest salary can live/survive in Doha.
I'm convinced that I made a bad choice when I left Muscat for Doha; I was living in a villa in a compound, taking coffee with friends twice a day in Inter, Hayatt or Shangri-la..... once the proposition of the transfert to Doha received I thought it would be better (a more developped country......) but when I landed and faced the real life....It was too late to go back
before reading your comments I was very disappointed :(rent very very very very expensive, cost of living very very very high and the water very very very HOT :-) But now, I would like to thank you, first for your frankness and second for sharing with us your tips....
P.S. life in Oman is less expensive and the rates in hotels are not the same (comparison btw Ramada Oman and Doha, Inter and Hayatt Oman and Doha)

I believe I am good at translation and My Arabic has always been excellent. Many Thanks to Ram for his support and to happy happy for her valuable advice and tips. nice to hear good attitutes now in QL ...I really admire FROG and RAM boldness and hoping that this forum can enlighten more people.
FROG, hapiness in life is not SPENDING your money for your goodselves but it is indeed in sharing with needy specially to your LOVED ONES (eventhough they might not need it) but the feelings is GREAT that you're giving hapiness to your family specially to your parents.
As for Asians, I know this absolute reality extending their finances with their families; some are forced too but mostly it is like blood running to our veins... that no matter how far we are, we always cared for our families.
