The top five cancer-causing foods

1. Hot dogs
Because they are high in nitrates, the Cancer Prevention Coalition advises that children eat no more than 12 hot dogs a month. If you can't live without hot dogs, buy those made without sodium nitrate.
2. Processed meats and bacon
Also high in the same sodium nitrates found in hot dogs, bacon, and other processed meats raise the risk of heart disease. The saturated fat in bacon also contributes to cancer.
3. Doughnuts
Doughnuts are cancer-causing double trouble. First, they are made with white flour, sugar, and hydrogenated oils, then fried at high temperatures. Doughnuts, says Adams , may be the worst food you can possibly eat to raise your risk of cancer.
4. French fries
Like doughnuts, French fries are made with hydrogenated oils and then fried at high temperatures. They also contain cancer- causing acrylamides which occur during the frying process. They should be called cancer fries, not French fries, said Adams .
5. Chips, crackers, and cookies
All are usually made with white flour and sugar. Even the ones whose labels claim to be free of trans-fats generally contain small amounts of trans-fats.

coffee ...Caffeine consumption by pregnant women can increase the risk of miscarriage, a new study reports.
And, it doesn't matter if the caffeine comes from coffee, tea, soda or hot chocolate. What does matter is the amount -- the study found that when women drink more than 200 milligrams of caffeine daily, the risk of miscarriage increases twofold.

colon cancer ...A large new study confirms that physical activity reduces colon cancer risk.Women who walked for 1 to 1.9 hours each week were 31 percent less likely to develop colon cancer than those who didn't walk at all, the researchers found. And women who exercised at moderate or vigorous intensity for more than 4 hours weekly were at 44 percent lower risk of colon cancer than those who exercised for less than an hour a week.

heart attack ...Increased blood sugar levels signal a heightened risk of heart disease, especially among women, a new study finds."Women who don't have diabetes usually don't have heart attacks, "Women with diabetes, basically, all have heart attacks."
People at risk of diabetes should have their blood sugar measured. If the fasting glucose test is elevated more than 100 milligrams per deciliter [of blood], it means that you are at risk of developing diabetes and you may have some excess risk of heart disease, particularly if you are a woman.
Every women over age 45 should have a fasting glucose test. Normal is less than 100 milligrams per deciliter, so 99 is normal, 100 isn't. "If the test is normal it should be repeated every three years."
