AL KHAIMA (22 Sept' 2007)

Me and a couple of my buddies went for Iftar to Al Khaima (No denying that this is my fav restaurant for grilled arabic food no matter what part of year, time or day.)
They have a buffet from 1730 to 1630 for ramadan at Qrs.60/- per head and booking is in advance.
Juices - Orange tang and some brown coloured sour stuff.
They have lentel soup,
Appertizers - mutabel, hummus, tabule, green salad.
Main course - grilled fish (Can't comment, as I am not much for sea food), grilled chicken, lamb, kebabs, french fries, whole lamb on a bed of rice, half chicken grilled on a bed of rice, beef burgers with dollop of mashed potatoes on a sea of tomato sauce, chicken on some sort of beans.
For dessert - arabic sweets, don't know the names about 8 of them.
And end it all with Solamani tea, or turkish coffee
What I understand is that it is a Syrian Restaurant.
During regular times ........
We usually prefer to be a group of 3 or 4 then we can have a variety. We usually order a mixed appertizer platter which is Hummus, Mutabel, Mixed green salad, olives, stuffed wine leaves (5 varieties) for Qr. 35/- or you could make up your own and they will charge you accordingly, Qr.5/- per variety.
We then order the one Kg mixed grill, which is enough for 3 to 4 adults. There are skewers of chicken, Lamb, Chicken and Lamb Kebabs, (All these are about one each per individual) this is served with french fries. Qr.90/- whole or Qr.25/- per person (Reduced price if ordered in bulk - the balance of which you can offer as a tip). All the grilled food is moist and melts in the mouth.
Their long bread is a must have, you can just have it plain or with tea, we start of with the bread and the appertizer and then work our way to the main menu.
We order everything in advance and tell them to bring the appertizers first and after about 15 - 20 minutes the main course.
If I go with my family and as most of them speak only arabic, I point in the menu what I want and make a hand sign for the long bread - since I am pretty regular they kind of know what I want.
They also have a boneless killer chicken grill.
The restauant is divided into two, for the male it is wood and glass, for the family side nice and bright with marble.
Atmosphere is good
Food - excellent to me.
Service - excellent, they come as soon as you call and food takes about 10 - 15 minutes from time of order. Moreover if you are a regular they anticipate your requirements and are prepared.
Location - End of all Saad Street just before CQB branch, opposite Q-tel building.
Price is average as mentioned above.
No booze - sorry, But I luv my food.
Overall Score A+
I like my food.
