Villageo reopens on 15th August :)

Villaggio Mall is gearing up to reopen, our sources say as early as August 15. But will shops be ready in time, and will customers go?

We recently got a look inside the mall, which continues to bear the marks of the May 28 fire that left 19 people dead, including 13 small children.

With due respect to the family members of all those who perished, I think the show must go on......But the Mall should reflect that we learned something from this tragedy. All precautions and safety measures to avoid reoccurance of any such tragedy must be taken and ensured all the time.
May the departed souls rest in peace.

Happy days are here again
The blue skies above will be seen again
So let's sing a song of cheer again
Happy days are here again
Altogether shout it now
There's no one
Who can doubt it now
So let's tell the world about it now
Happy days are here again
Villagio is to open again
Your cares and troubles are gone
There'll be no more from now on
From now on...
Happy days are here again

So will it open tomorrow, 5th Aug,?????????, too many people thinking too many different dates,, I miss that shopping centre, shame people had to die to get the right safety standards that should of been in place from the start, that’s the problem with these Asian countries,, too much under table. Time for the government to make a stand and do the right thing. Sorry to the loved ones on this topic.

Remember one thing before going there. The loss of innocent lives due to management and security mistakes. What would you do when there is again similar incident after it re-opens and the same history repeats.

Think about all this before going.

Before the place opens,,, the manager who keep the exit doors chained, the owners for not caring. the government inspectors who signed off on this,,, too late that so many died because of their Incompetence , but Villargio is not the only place you see this, when I first look at EZDAN compounds 4 years back,, all head fire alarm systems in place but not one villa was connected to the panel and have operational,,, how many shopping centers are the same, how many fire fighters and innocent people of all ages have to die, yes it scares the living [Mod Removed] out of me being in the so called safe country,,, Shame on Qatar Shame,,, no standards at all, no respect for human life at all, so 3rd rate country thinking, we are not as advanced as we think here, it’s all smoke mirrors and lights. Rest in peace,

I actually find it funny when people keep bragging about think before going to Villagio as an accident happened and many lives were lost. I am all sympathetic to the lives lost which in all prudence shouldnt have happened but it happened and thats a fact. But that doesnt mean that closing down Villagio is going to bring back those lives or is going to help in anyway. Justice or injustice to the victims is outside the realm of the opening or not opening of it. What would we do about the AIE plane that crashed in Mangalore (or similar innumerable incidents) ...should we stop taking a flight to Mangalore or stop all flights to Mangalore.

I am looking forward to it opening again. I will always remember what I saw that day whether I go there or not. And when I do go there it will bring back strong memories. But go but go back I shall because Villaggio was my favorite. The cinema the best, and the food court (which I know won't reopen at the same time) was a great Saturday treat of mine.

I would like to see a memorial of some kind, somewhere in or outside the mall to remember those who lost their lives. Somewhere close to the management offices would be good so that staff have to walk past it every day, and when they do hopefully it will remind them why safety should always come first.

And yet not one mall has posted any official document from MOI or Civil Defence stating that they now meet (or exceed) the safety requirement standards of Qatar or inspection certificates from either (or an internationally recognized and accredited safety body).

Where are these documents available for the public so that customers/visitors can assure themselves that these places are now actually meeting the building and safety codes.
