Qatar - place for young expatriates?

I recently relocated from Australia. I have been to few other countries as well (for education, travel and work). Any suggestions on how to make new friends? Pubs are closed, can't find a sports club that conducts social games, no Gumtree, nowhere to backpack, small sized European consultancy company with very senior colleagues, live in an apartment where most neighbours are 45+ with a 8 AM to 05:30 PM (sun to fri) routine - my routine is same but unfortunately I am 20 yrs younger!! huff! Help me fellows! Cheers!

Leo2012 ...With 4000 Riyals you can manage your expenses, considering the fact that accommodation and transportation will be provided to you. But I am not sure how much you could save. Looking at your designation and 4 yrs experience, 4000 QAR looks low to me.

accommodation ...Can you please name a website as I am hoping to come to Doha in September for work. I need to find accommodation and a few friends. Thanks.

accommodation ...Accommodation: Qatarliving will give you few options to choose from. Also ads in daily newspaper such as gulftimes(under classifieds). If your budget is higher and stay is longer (say minimum 6 months to 1 yr), try few real estate websites like ezdan, dtz, etc. For short term you will have many options within the CBD such as serviced apartments or studio flats. There are few independent agents/ brokers who cater to certain group of people - such as only for Asians or Europeans or British or Filipinos and so on.
Few friends: haha! not sure! I hope to get some info through this forum!
Good luck:)

Time Out Doha? ...Cheers guys! Pardon my ignorance! Is time out - a local magazine or is it an on-line community - similar to Qatarliving? I go-ogled and found a timeout, Doha blog. But have seen it with 'Gulf Times' as well! Are both the same?
qwertyness said
NO! There's Time Out Doha, ...NO! There's Time Out Doha, the magazine with it's website www.timeoutdoha.com. It's the same brand you'll find all over the world (it's a pretty big deal in London, New York etc). They do event listings as well as guides, community groups, etc.
