Any QLers explored Sabkha that lies at the end of the old camel race track leading from the Doha-Dukhan road for blooming roses underground?

It's pretty simple. Be sure ...It's pretty simple. Be sure to take a large container of water and a large bowl in which to wash the rocks. You dig down around 1 metre and you'll hit a hard crust. You have to dig through the crust and then try to break off chuncks. These chunks will look large, round rocks but when you clean them off with water (again, you need a lot of water) you'll find that they are the roses. Some have very large crystals and others are very small. They are all very fragile.
Take a shovel and picks as the crust is very hard. I found the best way was to dig a large hole and go through the rock. Then, start to dig under the crust. This allows you to then break off larger chunks.
If you have directions, please pm me. I'd like to go back but don't remember how to get there.

t-coffee Desert roses are not flowers but strange crystals ...They take the form of rose-petals and 'petals' are about 2 cm long and have a shape reminiscent of a swallow's tail.
You will fall in love when you see their images, just google

You'd be suprised-- I have ...You'd be suprised-- I have one that's about 1 foot in length and the "petals" are maybe one inch long and one inch wide. The size depended on where one was digging. They are beautiful!

Cal-Tex Thanks for the guidelines ...Did you bring the treasure home

We dug-up maybe ten then ...We dug-up maybe ten then split them among our group-- one each. So we didn't deplete the area too much. I kept the large one but the smaller ones have more interesting shapes. They are brittle so I figured the large one would last longer.

Don't go now ...it's way too hot. Wait until next winter. It is only fun if you go in a big group and make a party of it. Otherwise its a long drive for what amounts to a dig in the sand.
