Cars are not responsible for dangerous driving. People are. Who is driving these cars???

i agree with consulting, those people who drive big cars especially land cruisers and of the same type, are the ones reckless on the road, aside from the fact that their car is big, they are rich people that can change their car once its wrecked while we the common people who are just trying to live a decent life can't, well, this is their country and who we are to complain right? so we just have to be very careful while driving!!!!

I drive daily to Ras Laffan, I encountered daily tailgaiting Cruisers (more than the 120 km/hr allowed) at high speed and flashing their light telling you to move away even though they know the right side still dont have space for you to get in...

Really scary...this driver behavior is terrible

I don’t think cars r dangerous I think pickup r very very dangerous they don’t know how to drive it if anyone want to see them just go to industrial area u will find many there please go and check them first .

When I was in the driving school....a guy in thobe came driving his Pickup to give the test!!!

The guy had good control of the vehicle.....but he failed the parking test.......he never even took lessons

Then why did he drive? If he didnt have a licence

- LC High Speed qataries (no problem as long as you move out of their way)
- LC Variable speed hired drivers, often blocking roads near to Malls or Schools and then recklessly speeding up
- LC Low speed and fearful soccer moms / grandmas ! Just because the car is big they cross the roads without even looking!

People who are not used to driving in Qatar always think it is difficult and dangerous.

It is funny though when someone " who is not wearing a thoub " and who got the Landcruiser or the H3 hummer, from the car pool drives just as stupid as the others do , but no one says anything or "BASHES" them in this forum.

I joined Qatar Living a while back, It is not nice how it is turning to a " How much do you hate Qataries " forum.

Obviously, those who drives LANDCRUISERS are the most reckless and dangerous drivers.

I had been travelling with Europeans and Australians in qatar for some time and have noticed that they do not require any test to drive in Qatar, they are allowed to transfer their license with the local one. The problem is when they arrive here they tend to practice rules applicable with right hand drive and sometimes create problems for other drivers who practice Qatar rules. This is also unfare cause other nationalities who drive in their own countries are made to go through test and pay hard earned money to get a local license. I am not against any requirements of the local traffic departments but atleast there has to be some sort of test for westeners in particular before allowing them to drive. I have stayed in Europe and have found them to be very sensible when they drive in their own country, they only need to be bit educated about the local driving rules.

How many poor people have you seen in Doha driving all sort of vehicles with mobiles in their hands and atleast their left side paralyzed,driving all class of vehicles from datsun pick ups to Maybachs[mercedes].Most of them have bluetooth or or atleast wired headset that majority of mobile manufacturers provide with the hand set.Poverty of mind prevents these people from using it.These same people who call others dangerous often use
hand held mobiles themselves.
The others who want to take a left turn after three traffic signals and two round-abouts drive in extreme left[fast track]all the way with his speedo doing 77kph on an 80kph.All cars speedos are designed/calibrated to indicate more then the actual speed and in some cases upto 10% [+4% upward is normal].A GPS[they indicate accurate speed] equipped car asks for way in the fast track but this 77kph car wouldn't budge,cause he would be turning left after three signal.First he will Flash Horn/tailgate,the next he is tempted to break the law and all the while he is speeding at 80kph exactly!
Here overtaking is only allowed from the left and if a 77kph stickler sticks to the left without any valid reason then he is abetting other fast track users to break law by creating a dangerous situation for other road users.In other words dont misuse fast track for lame excuses.When your bussiness on left track is over, safely put yourself on a track appropriate to your speed and you will find DOHA ROADS OR ANY ROAD PRETTY SAFE!!!
The most dangerous drivers I find in Qatar are the ones driving [two tonne and above] ,medium sized pick up trucks.Because of fast acceleration these driver think they are driving a car and instantly jump to left forgetting that it cannot be controlled like a car.

i am sure nobody here tried to drive in cairo before, if anybody has driven in cairo he will know what i am talking about!

Is it bcoz of its strength (CC), power control and safety features made the LC drivers over-confident? irrespective of nationality or age.

I said Pickups bcoz they are generally new to Qatar roads and work pressure tend to rash driving, I guess.

i dont understand how many of u have given the verdict that whoever is driving a lc is wreckless ....r u guys serious or is this one of the many threads that lately have turned into bashing both the country and the locals.
A wreckless driver is someone who doesnt know or respect the rules,while endangering himself and others.it has nothing to do with a car brand or nationality...coz i dont think i would be civilised if i say all asians cant drive,or "you small car drivers r dumb and think u r driving an airbus when turning coz u get into the opposite lane" or its truck drivers,or women from all nationalities,some women should not be allowed to drive.I have seen wreckless driving from all the other categories in the poll more than from lc.so pls lets be fair here....and drive safe everyone

Like guns, automobiles create an elevated & imaginary sense of power & ultimately, becomes an extension of their manhood & of course, status symbol.

From where I came from, we've been around automobiles for almost a century so we've gone past the ignorance & amazement stage. Going behind the wheel is but a normal way of life. But for countries who have just recently graduated from camels to corvettes, well, give 'em a break while they are still trying to discover that cars are meant for travel & not for thrill & also again, an extension of their manhood. But to some of us, its just a way to get us from point a to point b.

So my dear friends, be careful & just grow eyes behind your back & your temples... for there's always a jurassic on wheels out there. Bottomline, I chose to be here so I have to live with reality...no complaints here.

I must say it now: the Qataris are excellent drivers. But ... there are too many uneducated other drivers on the limited roads. It's like a Formula 1 course with some donkey carriages cruising around.

roadhogs will always be roadhogs,whether you let them drive here or anywhere,regardless theyre driving a two door or a truck.

two main caues of bad driving here!
1 young qataris who have no control of any aspect of their own lives until they drive a car; a wonderful sense of power and control from when they steal family cars during the siesta at age 14 to when they are finally in charge of something positive when they have their own children, hopefully! Though many adults have never escaped this passing phase.

2 Young men employed as drivers, from the subcontinent usually, who when allowed out in a powerful car without supervision (or worse when Madame is in a hurry!) drive like idiots in an attempt to show how they are in charge and above all the awful, demeaning, instructions they have to abide by 23 hours a day!
The answer is to keep out of their way, the two minutes they might save by ignorant driving behavior is added up and the amount of time they spend sorting out the inevitable accidents which will occur more that compensates for your annoyance!

for me landcruiser drivers drive most recklessly. MOST. im lead to contemplate whether i shld go ask toyota what kind of STEEL this car is made of, to make its owners seem to feel invincible

Even though the Land Cruisers are reckless, they are expert drivers that I rarely see in any accident unless it's rear ending a small sunny that was blocking traffic or turning without looking. You see 90 percent sunnys or tiidas in accidents so in my opinion they are more dangerous then any.

As for westerners needing to pay for a permit, I agree that it's not fair that some pay and some don't however given that I've driven in countries all over the world, including; Asia, Europe, North America & Australia I can also understand why many people from Asia require a test, the rules are basically none existent there.

I feel you should add another category to your list.These little mini van's/busses. Theses buses are loaded to the hilt and their drivers going crazy behind the wheel. In my opinion they are overtaking the cruisers by far in being dangerous. At least we know what to expect from the cruisers. I wonder if Drivers of these little vans have had proper driving training , they have no regard what so ever for traffic rules and apply "pedal to the metal" philosophy, while carrying 10-20 people on board.

Following 4 most important ROAD tips then we all will be the MOST careful drivers:

1) USE of Indicators (when parking, coming out of parkings, Round abouts and changing LANES).
2) Follow LANE Discipline.
3) ALways Drive Slow when in residential areas and slowdown when near to Signals, pedestrian crossings and Round Abouts.
4) Respect small cars when Driving in FAST and SUPER 4*4 LC.

of course not all qataris are bad drivers, but many of the men, especially the younger ones, are. we all know why - they (the bad drivers, not all young qatari men) are arrogant and completely disrespectful to the point that they regularly put peoples lives at risk. they can deal with the consequences when they meet their maker, but for now where is the shame in standing up and saying "i drive like an A-hole!". how can that be more shameful that actually driving like an A-hole?

but they're not alone. there are a lot of other terrible drivers in qatar - on average i would say they are bad for different reasons (careless, don't pay attention, etc.).

nothing will improve until they put police on the roads who hand out big tickets for careless driving.
