Recently , I saw an ad on Qatar living for a villa in gharaffa.
I decided to call the agent and inquire where it is , he informed me , so i went there , asked the security the number of the landlord , I got it , I went signed the contract with him and the secruity guard showed the villa , and now the agrent is informing me i have to pay him comission of 7500, because without him i wouldnt have seen this villa , he said he went through lots of effiort in placing the add on qatar living several times to get the peoples attention.
Please tell me if I should pay him?!

Thats a huge commission to ...Thats a huge commission to pay! Good you got direct access to d landlord. If you didnt sign any agreement with d agent, whatever commission you give him is an act of kindness on your part.

Ethically if you have agreed ...Ethically if you have agreed to pay him commission prior , you should keep your word. Try negotiating the amount.
Legally, you dont need to pay any commission and if you call police he will be in trouble.
The commission he is charging is high as he is not acting as an intermediary between you and owner. And he wont be helping in any future issues or maintenance etc..
And if he is not a real estate employee or owner - he is going to get into real trouble legally. And if he is one and his real estate firm is not having any legal contracts with the owner or license to have brokerage, he will be in trouble.
In short, you are legally covered not to pay him :)
Choice is yours.

Tell him either take this or he will not get anything.

Ofcourse with your agent you wouldn't have got the property.
This was common scene in Dubai, people betraying agents after their given services. I feel sorry for that agent.

They are taking commision from landlord too. so all in all they make huge amount and as u know landlord is charging this amount also from u as rent :) ..
so end of the day you are the one who is looser :)

if this agent showed you the unit ...assisted in the contract signing....maybe he/she is entitled to a commission.
But if all he did is post on QL the advert, his number but never showed up....what the hell is that?

Yes you should pay, Agent ...WTH ...LEGALLY NO, this is not allowed. If he wants commission, it only comes from the property management company who he represents.
He is doing his job from the pmc he works for. Come on, be logical. You never have to pay a commission to get a place here.

Plus isn't he already getting ... ...Ryan, the Tenant is the person wanting the apartment to live in. Your right though, The commission legally would come from the Owner of the building or from the property management company he represents when he shows potential tenants the home.
I worked 6 years as a property management exec. We do not charge the potential tenant, we got paid from the owner of the apartments to show his apartments. That is our job, we can not legally charge the one wanting to see the appartment. UnEthical!!!

if the agent is a liscenced ...if the agent is a liscenced or employed in any real estate here in qatar you will pay 50% or half monthly payment for the rent as commission in cash or in cheque, which they are the one preparing the contract documents and signed from the owner. the agent will represent as the mediator between the two parties. (agent responsibilties) but
if and only if the agent in any circumtances is not under of any real state then suprisingly he will asked an amount which he/she did not tell you from the beginning which you also forget to ask. it is now your discretion.

Well This fee , what is it ... ...this fee is a scam for greedy people to take advantage of a potential tenant. Legally he/she can not charge you.
jeduthun said here in Qatar they do it anyway. The potential Tenant does not know his/her rights.
This is not Real Estate you are buying, it is a rental. There is never Legally a fee from potential tenants to rent a home.

Many agent when it talks about money and marketing they will hide some history of the house as long as they have sales or market. : )
/-a-t-/ adamtaar it seems the villa you are renting right is beautiful, kindly check the A/C if it works properly, the heater if there is leak, check the fictures in the toilet, the W.C. if it is properly flush, check the bulb at the ceiling and the switch, check the water pump if it function or what. these are the things we will asked before renting. the agent will be quite especilially they know what is wrong in the renting space. sometimes you will asked them but they replied in another topic.

Jeduthun... ...I am fully aware real estate is for buying and selling, not just for renting...I am stating...This is not Real Estate you are buying, it is a rental. There is never Legally a fee from potential tenants to rent a place.

In Abu Dhabi they charge 200 ...In Abu Dhabi they charge 200 riyals for seeing only, then they charge a month if you signed the contract.
Even if there is no contract to bind you to pay but it is morally ur responsibility. I am looking for a flat and most of the ads i see, they ask half month or full month commission, so i think it is becoming a practice here as in UAE.

here is my situation.
On August 29 , I saw an ad on Qatar living for a apartment to be rented in Al Sadd for 8000 QAR. The ad specifically said no comission.
I went to see the apartment , the current tenant just moved in first of August , and needs to vacate the premises closer to his job , and needs to find a replacement tenant to take over the lease.
I agreed. Then one day before signing the contract with the LANDLORD , I receive a call from the current tenant informing me that he paid commission to the person who assisted him in finding the apartment , and that I need to pay him part of the comssion since he only lived there for a month. I thought bout it , if i disagree , he will find another renter. So I said ok .
Then I signed the contract with the landlord , and there is no mention of commission on the contract . Now I am living in the new apartment. Do I have to pay the previous tenant the comission , since I already agreed , depsite the ad in qatar living saying no comission and also the contract i signed doesnt mention any comission , the previous tenant said he is not liable for the comission as he only lived there for a few weeks.
Please help.

Ive lived in UAE , BAHRAIN , SAUDI .
When it comes to renting a place , the commission is paid by the landlord. He has hired this agent to find a person to rent the apartment , isnt it his job to pay the person he hired ? Why do we have to pay the person who put an advertisement in the newspaper ? Just because he showed us the flat , we have to pay half the rent to him?
In other areas in the middle east , the landlord pays , not us ?
Please advice!
