Qatars, against homosexuality ?
Hello, i'm a 23 years old French boy, who has just accepted a great job offer in Doha. I'm so happy to come there but there is a few problems i can't resolve myself.
I'm a gay personn and i've just had a look on that map ( http://pegaze.kd2.or... ) who shows that Qatars, as United Arab Emirates and most of arabic countries forbids homosexuality. I can understand that i'm on way to live in an Arabic and Muslim state, and i've got a huge respect towards religions, but I can't refrain to question myself.
I'm a very masculine and straight looking boy, and no one can really know physically that i'm gay. But i heard some stuffs on another forum about a special police force called CID. I paste the exact text of someone :

But - truth be told, there are a lot of gay men here in the country. I know of some and they are very secretive about it. You can't really trust anyone these days. You will not be able to walk around holding hands, etc etc.
I always wanted to ask homosexual's why - but couldn't get around to it.

Adey ...You can, I see people kiss each other all the time here. The locals are always shaking hands, kissing each other. Was in Carrefour the other day and saw and heard 2 French couples meet. They all kissed each other. I don't think affection being shown here is the problem most people make it out to be.

There's a HUGE gay sub-culture here, as long as you aren't riding down the Corniche on a rainbow float wearing chaps and waving a rainbow flag...or vicariously making out or having sex with a guy in public (and this applies to Heterosexuals too) then you'll be fine.
Rule of thumb in Qatar is keep your private life private and that applies to everyone.

There is no problem with you ...There is no problem with you as a person coming here, however trying to establish any kind of relationship is very hard. First there are not many like minded people here to understand that.
But if you coming here for the job then no problem. There is a lot of forbidding things happening in Qatar, like prositution as one example. As long as you keep your personal opinion and sexuality to yourself and don't disclose to anyone it should not be a problem.

The gay guys I know here *love* it. All guys, hardly any women, most of the clubs only have guys in them, you can go to cafes and restaurants and movies with other guys and it doesn't look strange, and you can even hold hands in public and it's acceptable.
It's a personal choice of course, but my gay friends have lasted much longer living in Qatar than straight people, and they've all had a great time.

I think... ...it is not only against the states religion, it is against humanity. I think all of us, from base of our heart, understand that homosexuality or lesbian life is an abnormal way of life. Human is created in a pair, in two genders so they will like and love each other, not with the same genders.
Just a suggestion, it's better you comeback to your normal life, a normal life of human being. I believe your heart is always telling you that it was wrong, listen to it.
