baedaebok said Practical advice + big camel race Sun /-a-t-/ 1:00 ...

Whenever I post in QL, my most useful and enjoyed posts have been those about practical tips/info -- not socializing or commenting about others. I get myself in trouble whenever I do the latter. I'll stick with info posts (like the past post).

I'm glad that you enjoyed this sightseeing list. My parents are getting on in age so we're not seeing many of these things on the list.

If interested, a big camel race on Sun /-a-t-/ 1pm at the Camel Race Course. A lot of the Royal Family will be there (in the stands) so I don't know where average people can stand to watch the race. We went there yesterday but the camels were just practicing.

To get to the race track, turn right at next R/A after Rayyan Stadium R/A. Then turn left at the next R/A and you should see overhead signs. After turning left, If you continue along this road, you'll see the Moh al-Dosari farm on your left side. During Eid, it has some fun kid stuff (pony rides, etc.)

The main attracion you missed to point out is Mesaieed Sand Dunes. Nothing comparable to it if you experience it once with beach buggie, 4 wheel drive and campfire.

My parents are also getting on in age. My father is 70 and my mother is age undisclosed. They spent a week here last March 2007.

One day we went on a desert safari with a Qatari driver called Ibrahim. He did some crazy dune bashing and we had a picnic at the Inland Sea. My mother absolutely loved it and still talks about it a year later.

We also went to the Cutural village on the Corniche as it was open for Qatari culture week. Again, my mother loved it. She wore an Abbaya and burka and bonded very well with local women.

I gues it is all about attitude. Good luck with your folks. Although I love mine dearly a week was lond enough for the visit.

Don't ket age be a barrier to having a good time.

Hi,

Does anyone know what's happening today? Any place or event happening today that should not be missed? Some camel race (never seen one) or a horse race (love those)... or anything else.

I'm not working on Sats from now and am bored :(

baedaebok said Community events! ...

The places to visit & things to do is dwindling due to the weather. I haven't heard of any community events recently. Has anyone else heard of any community events in Doha? The last community event was Dunestock and Wheels 'n' Heels. I don't count sports events since I don't like sports.

I'm winding down my stay in Doha as I'm leaving in a few months. So, I'm kinda out of the loop.
