Practical advice + big camel race Sun /-a-t-/ 1:00 ...Whenever I post in QL, my most useful and enjoyed posts have been those about practical tips/info -- not socializing or commenting about others. I get myself in trouble whenever I do the latter. I'll stick with info posts (like the past post).
I'm glad that you enjoyed this sightseeing list. My parents are getting on in age so we're not seeing many of these things on the list.
If interested, a big camel race on Sun /-a-t-/ 1pm at the Camel Race Course. A lot of the Royal Family will be there (in the stands) so I don't know where average people can stand to watch the race. We went there yesterday but the camels were just practicing.
To get to the race track, turn right at next R/A after Rayyan Stadium R/A. Then turn left at the next R/A and you should see overhead signs. After turning left, If you continue along this road, you'll see the Moh al-Dosari farm on your left side. During Eid, it has some fun kid stuff (pony rides, etc.)

Baedaebok ...My parents are also getting on in age. My father is 70 and my mother is age undisclosed. They spent a week here last March 2007.
One day we went on a desert safari with a Qatari driver called Ibrahim. He did some crazy dune bashing and we had a picnic at the Inland Sea. My mother absolutely loved it and still talks about it a year later.
We also went to the Cutural village on the Corniche as it was open for Qatari culture week. Again, my mother loved it. She wore an Abbaya and burka and bonded very well with local women.
I gues it is all about attitude. Good luck with your folks. Although I love mine dearly a week was lond enough for the visit.
Don't ket age be a barrier to having a good time.

Community events! ...The places to visit & things to do is dwindling due to the weather. I haven't heard of any community events recently. Has anyone else heard of any community events in Doha? The last community event was Dunestock and Wheels 'n' Heels. I don't count sports events since I don't like sports.
I'm winding down my stay in Doha as I'm leaving in a few months. So, I'm kinda out of the loop.

Plus the other things in the list are pretty boring things but kudos for comiling them anyway.
And most of the time the attitude of people are not so much ok expect the expatriates.
Good luck!

I loved seeing the suits of chain mail and some of the weaponry..amazing the ways in which human could think to hurt each other..

DOES ANY ONE KNOW WHY THERE IS LIFE SO DULL IN QATAR NO TRADITIO ...ashok
HI ALL CAN U PEOPLE CAN TELL ME WHY LIFE IS SO DULL IN OMAN WHEN IT COMPARES TO OMAN
Joseph86 said
BECAUSE MAYBE YOU HAVE HIGH EXPECTATIONS ...LIFE IS ONLY AS DULL AS YOU WANT TO MAKE IT. WHAT EVER YOU WANT, YOU CAN HAVE. IF YOU WANT A DULL EXPERIENCE, YOU WILL PULL ONE IN, IF YOU WANT AN EXCITING ONE, YOU CAN PULL THAT ONE IN TOO. SO, DON'T WORRY ABOUT DULL. MAKE YOURE LIFE AS EXCITING AS YOU WANT. ONLY YOU CAN DO THAT. GO OUT. LOOK AROUND. SHAKE A FEW HANDS, TALK TO SOME PEOPLE. DON'T ISOLATE YOURSELF. THIS IS THE WORST THING THAT YOU CAN DO. HAVE FUN. ENJOY. DON'T WORRY ABOUT WHAT OTHERS THINK. DON'T LIVE YOUR LIFE WITHOUT TAKING RISKS. ITS ALL THERE FOR YOU. MAKE IT HAPPEN. YOU CAN DO THIS.
baldrick2dogs said

Sightseeing ...I suggest that everyone in Qatar interested in sightseeing buy a MARHABA book available at Carrefour, megamart, Jarir bookstore and many other shopping places.
It includes a complete guide to sightseeing along with phone numbers to call, Maps and even GPS coordinates of many of the interesting places in Qatar. It also has a list of tour operators with phone numbers. It's a must have not just for this, but for the school section, the dining out section, etc etc. It's worth more than the 20QR that you have to pay to buy it. One more thing; It has a fabulous map of Doha that shows where all the important sights are located.
