Traffic News on the Radio?

Why aren't traffic reports broadcast regularly on the local QBS radio during the rush hours? Not suggesting reporting all the jams, otherwise no time for music, but even if we knew about the latest serious accident, like on the Expressway tonight, it may give drivers a chance to take an alternative route....assuming that they're not already jammed up.

If the radio channel is ...If the radio channel is interactive enough with the listeners like we have some in Dubai, such announcements can be made.

This can happen only with the ...This can happen only with the help of active and considerate listeners while they are going to or retuning from work. I remember tuning into 101.6 or 89.1 in the evenings while returning from Jebel Ali to Dubai. Most of the times announcements were made about traffic congestions in Sheikh Zayed or the Emirates road but it didn't help much. Once you take a certain route and get into the traffic, its impossible to change course.

Exactly ...Just like the local newspapers you would probably get very little information worth listening to on this station. Perhaps try tuning to the French service of QBS

TRAFFIC NEWS ...The only time I remember that we had this was when Nick Kelly, years ago, on the QBS morning show used to talk live to "Hands Free Pat" on her morning journey to the Gulf English School from the Old Airport area. We got a live update every morning. Why not today? Too much trouble for the presenters who have a comfortable niche where the best policy is make no waves.

Why would they report traffic ...Why would they report traffic news? It's the same reason why weather reporting is not big business.
The report would be--heavy congestion at every round about, multiple accents, crazy drivers in little pick-ups, aggressive drivers in LCs and large trucks generally being moronic. In other words, it's lethal out there so drive something large and pray a lot.

QBS isn't a 'News Channel'! It's an amateur radio station and serves as an alibi. Don't expect anything and you'll be fine.

Frequencies added to Mike's post ...My favourite english radio stations in Qatar:
1. Studio one FM (KSA) 91.4 or 94.1 (can't remember which?)
2. Radio 2 (UAE) 106.0
3. Radio Bahrain 96.5
These are for the English language stations which you can receive here
All a bit 'weather-dependent'- unfortunately - but somewhat miraculous that they work at all.
Also if all else fails try 101.7 for the sound feed from Al Jazeera English TV news channel. Makes any prog with sub-titles a bit tricky though. :-)

That was the day when I stopped listening to this GRAP!

Channel 4 from Dubai ...On 104.8 MHz is also sometimes receivable. But all the long distance FM channels seem to have gone in the last few days with the arrival of Autumn? Must be a heat/humidity thing that allows us to receive them in Summer.

Yeah I've noticed recently ...Yeah I've noticed recently that lots of UAE channels are no longer receivable. I am even struggling to pick up radio Bahrain at the minute, in either of my cars.
Channel 4 had been my main radio station over the past couple of months.
Once in a while I was also able to pick up radio one from Dubai.
I had Qatar Radio on the other day, it was so bad I had to turn if off and sit in silence before I went mad. It really is a car crash of a station!

I thought Bernie is Irish? ...that's what was said on that radio station when one of the announcer (forgot his name) negated that him and Bernie sounded alike.

some said QBS is a amateur ...some said QBS is a amateur radio station. seriously, every single amateur station is better than QBS. in an commercial radio environment, this station would have shut down a very long time ago. everything is just wrong on that station. when i ordered a new car, i made sure it has a HDD and a USB installed to get away with radio tunes in this country. its really a shame!
